You know you're a tripper when: Earthstars look like little temples.. Or when you think little aliens are about to walk down the landing ramp arms of it, out of the sporebag and tell you why they've brought you to this place. There was a natural outcrop of rocks in that grove that I could swear was gonna open a doorway into the faerie kingdom..
And, just for the record, I dried and ate 5g of the Amanita that I found there and thoroughly enjoyed some obe's and a kickass body, euphoric high. There is good magic in those shrooms, dont let anyone tell you different!
Other random comments- Over 3 years of sub hunting I have found several patches of much bigger subs. In every single instance, they were growing amongst the ground covering of only 2 cetain species of plant and on all occasions, fruiting tall and large on that tiny, tight and curly bark that drops of gums in those long cylindrical pieces. It reminded me of how an agressive coloniser will treat straw- These subs had wicked rhizos that were sprinting up the bark columns. I know there not acclaimed Myrorhizhals, but theres gotta be something going on here! I reckon this could spark a series of experiments for the dedicated culitivator! Particularly when one considers how easy one can microwave vegetables in those special cook-in bags.. oops, a syringe slipped into a bag of barkk..

Yes yes so it did. I'm gonna check the weather bureau to see if it hit the mountains.

Well, in my part of town the downpour last night has made loads of pins shoot up. They been ACHING to surface. I mean, they was shooting up all over the place during the dry spell, but after the rain, got many a many, and they all look dark as f8k. I mean, I aint seen this in subs before, they all look nearly black, but healthy. like I say, they been aching to surface. Ah well, might put the hose on 'em, poor buggers, that rain was just a tease...

wollongong is sadly devoid of much rain, i went to the trouble of watering a couple of local patches which have started to fruit, but nothing like the 800 odd fresh grams i found a month ago.
i have seen some black mingin looking subs around, but nothing great, a few spots with obvious pins but nothing else.
i should have dried some out and saved them.
woe is me, pray for rain.

Piccies from last couple days..... main patch has started to pin thousands of the little buggers, just need some more consistent rain This weekend is looking sweet for some great hunting
Nobitte the Mountains around 'The Gong' were always good for subs, I could go up after a solid week of no rain and come back soaked from the humidity around the trails, beautiful area too

Count the subs.....

Nice mate, is that from nearby? There are very similar habitats near where I live, I should give them a look.
Would it be ideal to look in woodland such as this:

It's a quite dense, but it's right on my doorstep.

Those are pics from last two days between Sydney/ACT region, from urban city parks. My previous piccies are from the mountains, and the variation is interesting. I've been heading up into a few local Mountain Reserves, and have had best success hunting alongside moisture covered firetrails/trails that run alongside/down a steady slope. Areas to look for include woody debris covering the area, with plenty of dense vegetation giving some shade. 'Wet forest' is a great environment for subs. Creeks/river running through scrub can provide a decent environment.

I would def check that out, indeed very similar and looks like a beautiful area Check elevated areas, download google earth and you can get a nice '3D' view of the local terrain/satellite images

msanchez: nice finds man, great info on the bush hunting as well thanks man, i might test that info out on a few bush trails if it ever rains here.
Gavn: if you're in Sydney don't feel bad, we've had like no rain, whereas just about the rest of NSW has gotten at least a bit. I saw a rainfall map yesterday and everywhere north and south of sydney got at least a little, we got nothing. It's the driest Sydney May on record man, not the best month for hunting. Try again after a good day or two of rain. In fact mid-late next week looks good.

You lucky bastards!! Nothing down Far South, been talkin to a few other folk down this way, and they're of the same predicament.
Went for a hunt today, here's a pic of the kinda areas I look around in:

It ain't TOO dry there.. like, the plants around these areas are sorta moist..ish... just not enough I don't think!
I found a few small mushrooms, but TINY and not actives or anything particularly interesting.. shoulda taken a photo for the fun of it anyways..
BUUUTT!!!!

If you have a look there.. When I was last in Melbourne, I went on a successful hunt, and brought them back here.. I have put some of the mycellium into some mulch in a cardboard box, along with just taking the spore prints and emptying them here.
Didn't think anything would happen, but the mycellium seems to be spreading.. so mayyybbeee something will happen.. and they just might fruit!!! These are P. Subaeruginosa i'm talkin bout.
Really hoping to be able to cultivate. This week I'm gonna try my luck at cultivating in a jar by one of the teks I found, but.. figured i'd try an el naturale way as well!!!! anyone ever had any luck doing something like this??
