Shiitake and trametes versicolor updates.

I had a couple of isolated cultures selected from multispore plates that spontaneously erupted into hyphal aggregates. The plates are not very old and look very promising. These are among many I am working with right now. There are about 6 plates out of estimate of 40-50 that have shown this. Most are very uniform and are growing quite fast for shiitake but have not demonstrated this so far.

I inoculated liquid culture with these strains for inoculation into sawdust, bran, newspaper substrates.

Also used double wedge tech to inoculate 50/50 rye/wheat spawn jars.

The trametes is doing very well. Almost too well. It colonizes quart jars of rye in 4 days. It's incredible. Fastest species I have cultivated so far.

It literally tries to push itself out of the dishes and under the agar similar to what happens with oysters.

I used some spawn to inoculate 2 gallon bags of sawdust like this. I just shook it! It was almost completely white after a few days. I will post more pics after it recovers. Oh! And recovery happens over night. Yeah crazy huh! i wake up the next morning to find dime size growths.

I'm being taken over by my hobby

I need to eat!! lol

Yep, I've found T.versicolor to be a graet colonizor. The culture I'm working with now colonizes a 70mm petri from tissue scrapes in 7-8 days

Could you please post a picture of it. And where it was found. I'd like to see if there is any characteristics in region. I'll trade you for one of mine. Mine has a lot of aggregates all over it after the first week. Bumpy as hell. I'll post a pic tonight of mine after work.
Here it is at 36 hours

Hey Lipa,
I left my camera at home, but I have 10 plates colonized here in the fridge and they all are 'bumpy.' There is a ring from 35mm to 45mm (inside and outside diameter) that is distinctly 'bumpy' while the rest is flat like the Reishi. I have a G. Lucidum culture that colonizes 70mm petris in 6 days
I'd be happy to trade. I don't think I need any cultures, but if you send me a package with the postage and your address on it I'll fill it up PM me for the address

Very similar to mine but the aggregates are all over, not on just the outer parts. How interesting!
Thanks! I'll take a pic tonight of it!

Yep, but interestingly it *isn't* the leading edge but rather halfway between the point of inoculation and the edge

Oh! I didn't know how much the culture of yours was grown out. I ussumed the 45mm was the leading edge of your culture. My bad. I don't use petris! I never pay attention to the size of the ones you guys are using nowadays. I prefere the pp deli cups. They are a little larger I think.

Yes they are polypropylene deli cups. They are autoclavable. I love them and their cheap, and reusable.

Thanks guys. Although I brought this thread up accidentally when looking for my other shiitake thread. This was the start of the experiment. When I first started having good luck with the cultures. The Trametes was placed outside and fruited, but got attacked by bugs. I will work on a second attempt.
