Hey guys, this might be a weird question but
has anyone out there backed up the site, or is there a way to easily do that?
I ask beacuse I have been reading a few posts about some sketchy operations(selling shrooms, growing in dorm rooms, etc. While many are hypothetical, a few were way too specific. I hate to say it, but I afraid that somehow the site will be incriminated or used as evidence or possibly shut down. I would hate for that to happen, but even more tragic, would be losing all the valuable research and the wealth of intellect that has accumulated here. I am new to the shroomery and culivation, but this site has been essential to my learning so far, and Id hate to see such a valuable resource disappear.
BTW Im not sure if this is the correct forum to post this, feel free to move this if it belongs somewhere else.

The shroomery technical does not violate any laws. If they were directly selling spores on the site and providing growing information they would be in a heap of trouble, but since the products are not sold here it falls under the free speech thing.

Just by a copy of the The mushroom cult,Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms and mycelium runing by Paul Stamets..
If you can grow one kind, you can grow most of them...
Unlike some company's, that have a mag, a spore store and a place you can buy mushroom growing stuff...There heading the same way Overgrow went..

The shroomery only has sponsers, overgrow was accutally selling the shit is why they got popped.

I'm pretty sure that if the shroomery was shut down a lot of it's knowledgeable members would migrate to different shroom sights. There are others you know.

I'm not naive enough to think that it would never happen, but I don't think shrooms are at the top of the "drug war" list of drugs to crack down on at the moment. When have you ever seen drug dealers selling shrooms on the side of the street or hookers sucking dick for them? 
Besides that, how much more do you need to know about growing mushrooms? Sure there are different fruiting chambers, tools and techniques people use, but the basics are still the same now as they were before the shroomery was even around. I'd be more worried for the spore vendors. I try to make as many prints as I can of the different strains I grow and store them away. If the laws on spores ever change, underground trading may be the only way to get a hold of them in the future.

I guess that you guys have a point, but I'm still learning here, and I want to absorb as much as I possibly can. Remember when Napster was the shit? Well there are still free ways to dl music, but its way harder and the gov cracked down on that stuff. I know that this info will never be lost forever. But it might make it extremely difficult to find if not for the shroomery. How many of you knowledgable folks out there would I have the oppurtunity to pick their brain without the shroomery? None. Its just so great for me now I would hate to see something like that happen...
As far as the free speech stuff goes...Its not THAT far of a stretch to connect shroomery and the sponsers. Considering that they advirtise here as well as chat on msg boards and so forth. They are active members here selling LEGAL items on a site with LEGAL information...Problem is you put these two things together and it might not be so legal anymore.
Im not so worried, it would just be a terrible thing to happen, thats all...

The Shroomery is one of the more tech savvy sites that I have been on compared to some of the ones that have went down in the past (The Hive, Overgrow, and others) so I would imagine they do have a full back up.
You really don't have to worry about The Shroomery getting shut down. It has been up for over a decade and was around before most other sites (that I know of). The Shroomery is a very information oriented site that doesn't offer any supplies. If you search for edible mushroom growing info the Shroomery is one of the sites referenced and linked to from a ton of other sources as well. It is very beneficial to the cultivation community in general.
The problem with Overgrow as that the company that owned it also owned a seed store. It was the seed supplier that got busted, not Overgrow, however as a result Overgrow as shut down as well. There were also various goings on in the private messaging systems of Overgrow as well that lead to their demise. Shroomery members are smarter than that.
The problem with The Hive and Rhodium was the fact that it dealt with a lot more illegal things than the Shroomery does. They also had a pretty larger scale distribution system operating from their private message system and may or may not have had private forums dealing with distribution as well.
As for several other "grey" area sites that have been shut down in the past their major downfall has been the operators were connected to selling supplies or were conducting illegal business via the site.
The main information suppliers on the site are not admins and none of the vendors have admin priveledges. The admins are also very good at locking/removing threads that are even in the realm of questionability.
Another huge advantage the Shroomery has over some of the other sites is that mushrooms are not linked to any international traffickers and there isn't a majro distribution network for them. That keeps violence, corruption, and organized crime away from mushrooms, that in turn lets the mushroom community slide under the DEA and FBI's radar. The only problems that mushroom growers really face are from local LE, not national.
