Coffee tends to speed mycelium growth. I've never experimented with yeast. As far as potency goes, it's in the genetics.

i use chaft(spelling?), which is the soft shell of green coffee beans. i work at a roastery so i can take as much of it as i want. it is very fluffy and absorbent.

i would love to try maca in a substrate. i brought back a few kilos from peru. it is what the inkan warriors ate before battle. they werent supposed to eat it after battle because it is a sexual potentiator and they are more likely to rape their victims.

Hey old mushmellow,

That's a real good idea and I have some right here.  I'm gonna add some to my bulk sub and casing and maybe rye jars too.

I do a lot of fermenting of microbes (EM, BIM, IMO, etc) and I use "Pure Pitchable Yeast" which is live yeast cells.  Anyway, inside the package is a "food package" for the yeast (brewers "ale" yeast);this may or may not be the same as "yeast nutrient".  I will look into the contents and that maybe an option too.  It might be good to try the food packs or at least see what it's made of (simple sugar I assume)

Also of note is the organic substance "inulin".  It's most prevent in roots of some plants and grasses and it's a base carbon source.  It's my position that AM (arbuscular mycrrihzeas) consume inulin once they penetrate the roots of the host in trade for giving the roots water, protection and solubleize P.  I have desinged a DIY method to extact the inulin from  roots with using heat and pressure in the kitchen.  I can post more if your  interested.  Many microbes will 'eat' inulin...

Sorry to bring up an old topic but i had a question.
Shoeareyou - Do you just dissolve the Marmite into the water before adding it to the substrate?? Im not experienced but this would seem logical to me....
How did the tests go??
