collections warrant?

i received a letter in the mail the other day from collections saying that i owed the court house money. i was like wtf? I haven't had any fines lately.

so i call the court house and they say that i owe them for an assault charge 4 years ago!! But their has been no suspension on my license and no warrant issued.

the next day i get a letter from collections saying that they will come to my work and arrest me, to save the embarrassment pay the money.

i called collections and tried working out a time pay but to no avail.

can they really even do anything if i don't pay them now, and send them the money when i actually have it? (which might be a month or so). I mean, its just a collection company, and if the courts would have actually wanted to do something about it, wouldn't it have been 4 years ago?

check your credit report, i had a collection agency run a scam and try to collect twice.

the court house did concur that i have an unpaid balance from 4 years ago, but i have to send the money to collections because its in their hands now.

true they bought the debt note as long as your sure fuck what can ya do ????

might as well pay now so ya dont get nabbed drunk, wasted with pockets of goodies, or just inconvenienced.

can they really come and arrest me, or make them put out a warrant for me?

even if i get a warrant, couldn't i still just pay it off?

this collections company isn't even close to the same state either.

only like 500, but i have child support and rent. a full tank of gas pretty much breaks me if they catch me on the wrong pay check.

hmmmmmmm seems like they want it. funny they wont deal. hit em on monday againg give em the blood from a turnip speech see what ya can do.

good luck, would fix it eventually cause itll be a nagging pain and it would suck to fight them if they decide to start charging ya intrest. :frown:

theyre just trying to get you to shit your pants drse, now that it has been turned over to collections, it is treated just like any other collection agency. now if you owed the courthouse the money, then i would say yes, you need to pay it ASAP, because a few years ago i had an outstanding amount due to the courthouse for a ticket from 3 years prior, they said if i didnt pay within 30 days that my license would be suspended and blah blah blah, they were not joking. these guys are full of shit, a collection agency cannot have you arrested(unless they work for the IRS :lol:) due to money owed, the most they can do is fuck your credit a little and MAYBE put a lien on property you owe. not to mention since it has been turned over to them, they have an obligation to inform you of this, and then you should have a certain amount of time from the first correspondence to pay, and then if you havent paid by then they will give you ANOTHER deadline.... theyre full of shit man, noone is going to arrest you. if they can do this, then its news to me.

if you dont mind me asking, what is the name of this collection agency?

Maybe. It happened to me once. I got arrested for past fines.

They may have some deal with collections that streamlines them getting an arrest warrant for you. Normally collections can't do that, but when it's tied to court fines they sometimes can. Usually paying the fines is a condition of your sentence. By failing to complete it you can face additional penalties. I don't really think they'll do anything to you, but better safe than sorry.

If you send them a check for $20 saying "April payment for debt xxx" in the memo they will most likely cash it and then you'll be good for a month. If they cash it they will be accepting those $20 a month payment terms, at least for April.

In most states they won't bother arresting you for less than 1500$. Even then they need to sign out a warrant first and send you a letter thorough the mail from the court. Not a collection agency. If they do put out a warrant for your arrest. Nothing will happen until you get stopped by police on a traffic ticket or questioning.

When they stop you and warrant check you it will come up that you have a warrant and if it's under 1500$ they have the option to let you go with a warning to go to court and pay up.

thats because you had a driving offense. im not sure if they can or cannot suspend your license drse, as your offense was assault. :shrug:

No. I didn't have a driving offense. They stopped me for a broken tail light but found I had warrants for unpaid tickets for non-driving related offenses ( Drinking in Public, Open Container ) There-for they charged me with driving with a suspended license.

If you have any warrants for any unpaid tickets. Driving related or non-driving related. They automatically suspend your license. When I went to court I had to sign a monthly agreement to pay a certain amount each month to get it re-instated.

Every state is different. sometimes it takes time to make it into the computer. your right thoe 4 years seems like a long time.

I think until you get a warrant issued. Your license should be fine. Right now it's only the credit company bothering you. you'll probably just get calls at all hours of the night like I do. Asking when your gonna pay up.
