Should I Re- Steralize Spawn Bag from vendor?
    #8176746 - 03/21/08 07:20 PM (5 years, 2 months ago)

I had bought a Supplemental Sawdust spawn bag with grain from a shroomery sponsor. I received it and it got green Mold so I asked for a replacement spawn bag. I just got the replacement and I don't want to fail this time due to contams just in case it somehow got contams on the way here.

My question is can I put it in my Pressure cooker and re-sterilize it? Would this be a sure way to avoid contamination? Is there any reason I shouldn't PC it? If not how long should I PC it for? Could I possibly put it in the oven instead of the PC? Finally what is the best way to PC it without melting the bag or changing it's moisture content? I was thinking about wrapping it with foil?

Thanks for any help. I'm hoping to get as much Feedback from you guys before I inoculate it with my Ps Cyan. I really don't want to waist any more spores.

i would think that if you re sterilized the spawn bags in a pressure cooker it would dry out the bag. if you got the bag from a sponsor chances are its ok. (everyone screws up every once in a while)

I didn't think of it drying out. I guess I'll just go ahead and inoculate it. I just hate to think of wasting any more Ps Cyan spores. I have dozens of Cube Prints and Syringes but only 1 Ps Cyan syringe.

The replacement spawn bag looks kind of old and there is dirt on the filter patch. I hope this one is sterile. If this one is also contaminated I don't know what I'll do. I'm taking every precaution possible this time to make sure it could be nothing on my end. My other spawn bag I got a while ago from a hightimes vendor is doing fine. No contam problems. So I doubt it's something I'm doing wrong. Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Have you questioned the possibility of a bad syringe?

I tried it on a jar when I first got it and there was no contam.

Re: Should I Re- Steralize Spawn Bag from vendor? - UPDATE [Re: sturmer88]
    #8266743 - 04/10/08 11:53 PM (5 years, 2 months ago)

Heres a quick update. I got my Replacement bag in the mail a couple weeks ago and re Inoculated it with Ps Cyan spores and I think I'm now starting to see Myc surface to the outside of the grain. No contam this time. I realize I need to wait for the myc to totally colonize before mixing with the sawdust but I don't have any experience growing Ps Cyans so I'll be starting a thread soon to help with that.

I plan on trying an indoor grow, inside my fridge. Just thought I'd update you. The shroomery sponsor came through great. Even thoe the first bag was contaminated the replacement came really quick.
