 Mom Had Kid Buy LSD For Her At School, Tampa Police Say

 Tampa police arrested a woman Thursday night who they say told her daughter to score some drugs for her from school. Brenda Kay Kelley handed her daughter $150 about two weeks ago and told her to buy her some acid at school, according to an arrest report. The daughter did as she was asked, police said. The report does not identify Kelley's daughter's school. Police went to Kelley's home to assist an investigator with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Offices' child protective services unit who was checking the welfare of the child, the report states. Kelley, 37, told officers they could search her home, at 1923 W. North A St., the report states. Police found three glass pipes that tested positive for marijuana use and two wooden boxes containing a small amount of marijuana, rolling papers and other drug paraphernalia, the report states. Kelley was charged with felony child neglect by exploitation and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. She posted $8,500 bail this morning and was released.

Yeah, how did the cops get involved? I know that they were welfare people, but it sounds like they came with cops because this girl was shopping for LSD at school.

Where I come from, the only time kids get checked up on is when the parents are on welfare. Perhaps this wasn't the case, but this article wasn't very thorough in how the cops got involved in this women's life, hence why I assumed welfare.
The bond money being posted made me doubt this, but until someone can explain how the cops knew this girl was buying LSD for mom, I still think that woman was on welfare. The article doesn't mention a father either.

the cops probably got involved because a child isn't smart about buying drugs..
I'm sure she thought it was the funniest/coolest thing, *ever*, when her mom asked her to find acid. I'm sure that she told at least one friend... who told at least one friend.. blah, blah, blah.. until someone else's "cool" parents found out... and called the cops.
she probably looks like a strung-out meth-head because cops show up at the earliest possible hour, usually.. probably had just got up to put her kid on the way to school, or something.
Totally fucked up situation, but the woman put herself there..

You're making it out to be a much bigger deal than it is with such few facts. If her daughter was a teenager it really isn't that big of a deal. That type of shit wasn't all that rare around me when I was growing up. Also, it doesn't explain the situation so you really shouldn't assume what happened.
