A 500-plant marijuana farm, split into small cabins and garages on a 7-acre parcel, was uncovered by detectives with two local drug task forces Tuesday.
The West Sound Narcotics Enforcement team, along with Bremerton Police's Special Operations Group, served a search warrant on a home on the 11000 block of 126th Avenue, west of the Canterwood Golf and Country Club. A 55-year-old Gig Harbor man living at the home was arrested but released later, detectives said.
The investigation began when Kitsap County Sheriff's deputies were looking for a suspect in a hit-and-run collision in the Silverdale area, and spotted a man walking quickly to a house on Marigold Drive NW. When the man opened the door deputies smelled the odor of marijuana, detectives said.
Enforcement team detectives got involved, and though trace amounts of marijuana turned up in the man's house after a search warrant was issued there, they learned of an acquaintance of the man in Gig Harbor.
When they searched the property at 126th Avenue, they found small, cabinlike structures as well as a detached garage filled with marijuana plants. Detectives counted 506 in all.
The enforcement team is made up of the Kitsap and Mason county sheriff's offices, Bremerton, Poulsbo, Shelton and Port Orchard police departments, the Washington State Patrol and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Such a bullshit excuse to get a warrant. Oh, we smelled weed from all the way out on a street. If the house is sitting on 7 acres, chances are it's a good ways back from the road, they didn't smell shit, they just wanted an excuse to harass a guy. Sad when we live in such a fucking police state that walking quickly while the cops are around automatically labels you a criminal who needs to be investigated.
And I'm so sick of calling pot growers criminals. Marijuana has virtually no adverse health affects, and most growers only grow because demand is endless, and it's a good way to make a lot of extra cash. I don't see how it is morally wrong for someone to grow a plant, but McDonalds can sell you a heart attack on a bun, and big tobacco and alcohol still run rampant.
HEY GOVERNMENT. WEED WAS MADE ILLEGAL AS A RACIST MEASURE AGAINST MEXICAN IMMIGRANTS AND LATER BLACK PEOPLE WHO SMOKED THE STUFF IN THE FUCKING 30S. IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON, THINGS HAVE CHANGED.
