Found these in SoCal. Created a different post for them, but wanted to get a few other opinions on if they really are Subbs.
Subbs?

Thanks!

ya those look like subbs. but the one on the very right could be panaeolopsis. also, they all look like they're blueing at the base.

Yeah, they all had blue at the base. Does bluing occur in Panaeolopsis?

According to the reports, yes. However I think that one on the right is a subb as well. I've been seeing a lot of those lately. If they drop spores then I would doubt they were panaeolopsis.

Thanks! I took some prints last night and inoculated a jar of rye.
We'll see what happens.

A jar of rye? sounds too sterile for a wild print. Youll get growth alright, just of all kinds! hehe

i've heard some shrooms woln't grow well in a well sterilized substrates. never really got a legit explaination as to why but the other day i read an article about a certian fungus bacteria symbiosis, maybe it has something to do with a similar interaction? maybe im talkin out of my ass?

If a jar is sterilized and inoculated with an unsterile print, Theres a great chance that bacteria or other mold is going to grow much faster than the mycelium and make the jar useless and disgusting.
If you only partially sterilize the jar, (pasteurization) then that certain "symbiosis" with other organisms and the mushrooms can now potentially occur, creating ample environment for multiple creatures to thrive in.

Yeah, that is probably true, at least for some species of fungus (I'll see if I can find any journal articles on the topic). It is likely that the bacteria feed off molecules shed or excreted by the fungi, or simply degrade senescent hyphae. Also, some type of fungi have "bacteroid" symbiotic partners within them, possibly like how chloroplasts and mitochondria originated as algae and bacteria and became organelles.

Can't post pics at the moment but I picked a lil over 150 subbs today. Found a new neighborhood to pick on. Subbs seem to be popping again (except my good spot). I will post pics as soon as I have an internet connection to my pc.
