I found about 1.5 oz dry subbs in the yard of a newly built house last week, and I wasnt able to take but half of them. I have went back to the same spot twice now after rain and found no subbs. Tons of other shrooms, not in the same yard but EVERY WHERE else. Any one have any idea why they are not coming back?

Just a few more. Ok, just a few more. I've been back to that patch several times now and just grab the biggest ones. What's weird is Saturday I picked a box full of the big ones and left hundreds of smaller ones, but when I went back this morning there were NONE. Not even one. There were tons of conocybes though. Strange. I'll give it a week and check back. "
thats weird. not only is that the exact thing gowing through my head when i was picking but he has the exact same problem as i did. conocybes are the only mush left in my subb field

Heh. Sounds like someone else knows your subb field.

whats up guys? i would like to hop aboard this train of huntage. so far i have collected some Panaeolopsis and subbs from a golf course, which is a goldmine by the way. The good thing is, is that there are sprinklers so you dont really need rain. Bad news is that they mow the grass frequently so i dont think they get to ever be there greatest potential. anyways as soon as i get my camera going i can show you guys what im working with.

Heres the patch of thousands of subbs. I cannot get them all into the cameras view. it would also possibly tell people where it is if I did. Just imagine this patch of grass for several hundred feet. I could pick for hours and never get them all....
 ...and a closeup.

Many meaty ones!

And an interesting subb comparison if I have ever seen one.

The one on the left might be albino? But it has some interesting characteristics. The one on teh right is a normal subb. The one on the left leaves a black spore print, but it has a unique gill edge. that sticks out a little.

That's what my patch looks like except it's not as big as yours.
When I walked up on it I think I may have made some kind of silly noises.
How is the bluing on these? Almost all of the ones I have been getting have lots of bluing as soon as I pull them up. Some are blue about and inch up the base.
More bluing than I am used to seeing.
In your opinion, does the amount of bluing have a direct correlation to the potency. Last years Subbs required about six or seven grams to do the job. I would imagine these fat heavy bluers will require less.

I picked subbs off new sod 4 days ago went today and there was about the same amount as there was 4 days prior. The caps were a lot bigger this time and a lot less bluing on the stems, not sure if they are all subbs this time. But the caps from both pickings were really light brown to tannish color with brown gills but the first batch always deposited black spore prints.

I never really have to drive. I either have friends tip me off to places where mushrooms grow or I see em driving. In my area, they are probably the most abundant mushrooms I see other than coprinus micaeus and panaeolina foenisecci. I drive less than fifteen minutes always..
Also, I see no correlation to the potency when the mushrooms bruise blue or not. I see a difference in the potency when it comes to shape and size. The strongest seem to be the chubby stemmed fat capped ones. Makes sense since caps are generally more potent.

My big patch is in a school side yard. The school is about three or four years old. I've found them in a park that has been there for thirty years. But that was just one little patch that was right at the edge being watered heavily. This park was also full of green gills. I guess if everything is just right it doesn't matter how old the grass is. But it's going to be 114 degrees this week so the subbs are down for a bit I'm afraid.
