Yes they do in my experience too, but ive seen sum fatties in grass as well but not as common as poop.

ive been told not to eat mushrooms if they are directly off horse shit is this correct? ive also heard that if you do pick them directly off of it to make the shrooms into tea, whats a good way to make subb tea? (amount of mushrooms and preparation method)

were did you hear that at? Cuz its not true. I eat subbs that grow off of horse poop all the time, it doesnt matter at all. All horse poop is is hay and grass no big deal man chow down. I dont make tea dont like it but dry dose for me is 4-7 grms but thats a big dose. Try 2.5-3grms dry 1-1.5oz wet.

I'd say on average that's true. In my experience, subbs in manure piles vary as well, with the short fatties being out in the open, recieving more sun, and the more slender ones growing down in grassy areas of the pile. I know of some people on here who pick chunky grass subbs, but I've only found slender ones.

Found these today on a fertilized lawn.

I'm assuming these are pan subbs. I'm used to seeing the thick reddish capped subbs that grow on manure. You can see the black spore deposits on some of the caps so I'm guessing these are "lawn" subbs.
Should I dry and eat or just toss them out?

I've found a whole lot of these around my house, but most of em have really thin stems, most of the ones in all these pics look kinda thick in comparison, still ok? All black spore prints, I live in North-west Indiana if this help, I plan to go hunting today and take some pics.

Hey just posting some of the last subbalteatus from a very successful patch. After 3 months my subb patch at the villa is gone. Now subaeruginascens grow there which is just as nice but I will greatly miss them until I get off my ass and find another jackpot patch.
This is one I laughed at.

A beautiful clump.

Four. They grew towards the sunlight.

Some fresh...

Some dry.

Thanks guys for all posting and participating in this thread. YOU TOO can find subbs anywhere. I wonder what the government and medias reactions to subbs growing in everyones lawns would be... You cant stop them, They grow everywhere.

Chances are slim. You'll want to look around horse farms in the big piles of manure and stable shavings.

Man all of you make me so jealous with your pics and finds. I went over to my sisters house in a more upscale part of town and was surprised to see some nice shrooms popping up everywhere in her front yard. After I looked closer though I was startled because I thought they were Pan Subs! My wife and I gathered up what we could and I started to get prints....... All foes. The good news is that night we had a huge rain so I will be going out again in the next day or so. Temps have been steady in the 80's during the day and since I'm smack in the middle of the Midwest (Mo.), humidity is always high during the spring and summer months.

MushHunter, keep trying and you'll find the subs! My best luck has been in suburban lawns where a limited amount of resodding was "recently" done (within the last year or so); apparently last year's drought killed off plenty of grass patches in lawns and lawn service folks filled the patches with manure-based soil. Thankfully for me this tends to show up as blackish areas amid the grass. Inevitably some amount of Pan foes will be mixed in with the Pan subs.
