nice bluing on the stem of that one too the right of the pic. I found sum today as well but since the cold snap in GA they were small as hell, very stunted growth. What are the look alikes too subbs besides Foes. I mean what kinda shroom would be a look alike and have the dark band around the cap margin as well as a black print, are there any? Just makin sure like ive stated before in this thread i have been pickin weilii/cubes for the past 7 years just recently i was introduced too these gifts from god. Peace

sometimes certain psathyrellas can look a lot like subbs in my experiences. except their stems are a dead giveaway due to their thin and wet feel. Ive ran nearly across traffic in order to get a look at what i think is a major subb patch only to find a couple hundred psathyrellas.

no these are not psythrellas i know what those look like from being an experienced weilii hunter those grow in the same habitat as weilii and are an indicator species that weilii could be near. Im sure there subbs now inrolled margin cuz there young as hell black print cluster growth and the familiar band around the cap. FO SHO homies. Plus the stem is strong as hell usually look alikes too pans in my experience have flimsy stems that break easy these do not but no bluing at the base. Its strange how all the subbs i find in piles of rotting grass have blued but the ones in the pasture i pick in do not just stain red on the stem. Im just not used too finding them this young.

I found some subbs last weekend that were completely white on the caps, got them home and layed them out not to dry because I wanted to eat fresh the next day. The next day I started eating them and every cap had lots of blue over the entire cap! It was insane. Ended up seeing speed racer and holy shit I ate 2 8ths of those and they were almost to potent. Ive had 2 8ths before on subbs and these were much more than normal!

Nice finds everybody. I'm in W.TN, still ain't found anything so far even with all this rain! Showers every few days, decent temps, but no shrooms. But then again I only have a few places to look since theres not a lot of places with horses you can go without getting shot or bit up by a pack of dogs, haha

Nice finds man! Those other pan species are paps. at least the bigger ones are. The last picture you have I was asking the same thing on a few pages back. They start out yellow I think. Cant remember what they are called look back and it will show ya. Not active any of them besides the subbs

Keep em coming! I dont want to hear anyone getting sick of subbs EITHER! I have a gallon bag slowly filling with dry subbs.

And subbed in your guide all your pictures look like you pull them out instead of using scissors. Why is that. Arent you afraid of them not coming back. I never get to see if any of the stems blue because I just scissor them off usually right about where they would blue.

Anyone know how to dry these and keep the dark rings color. Every time I dry these the ring dissapears except for a few small ones. I want to reserve a good specimin with a ring.

The zonates (rings) will always disappear. You cant stop it. They are visible only when there is moisture in the cap.

Also, when you dry shrooms until theyre cracker dry, you can store them in bags for months or years as long as its cool.

Also, You dont needd to use scissors for subbalteatus. you use scissors for woodloving species mostly so you dont damage the rhizomorphic and sensitive mycelium. Subbalteatus have very fast growing, cottony mycelium so when you pull them up they dont bring the patch with em. Its safe to pull em without destroying your patches.
