wouldn't a pesto include basil by default? Pesto is really ez to make homemade;

pine nuts/basil/olive oil/garlic/parmesan cheese in a blender for a second or two, BAm!

The term pesto is used loosely these days. A pesto can be any herb, incorporated into an olive oil and ground nut mixture.

Basil, pine nuts, olive oil, garlic, and Parmesan cheese is the most common combination.

my grandma makes the most amazing pesto I've ever had in my life.. it's 10x better than crack. she wont tell me the secret ingredient but she learned it where she grew up in Genoa so maybe I should go there to learn the secret.

yes i love pesto just as much as the next guy.



But for frickin' Aye man, make that shit yourself.

You can tweak the different ingredients to your own liking, and u can use much fresher ingrediants than those store-bought packages.



A fresh basil and newly grated cheese makes the biggest difference.

All pesto means is something that's ground up. The word originated from Mortar and pestle, which is how the sauce was originally made.


In Sicily this neat Pesto "Trapanese" uses cherry tomatos and almonds as a base.

It's delicious on spaghetti.
