No it's not unheard of, lots of fighters would fight a partner or trainer for the right amount of money. And this is what Dana White has said about that exact situation. Silva says he won't fight Filho, White says money talks.
I think Filho would have a great chance to beat Silva because he trains with him and would know his weaknesses or Achilles Heel, but I don't think it's going to happen, and there are more exciting fights that could be lined up anyway. Let's throw some more strikers at Silva and have some fun.

lawler got KOed by fucking diaz!!! it was a little looping jab too. robbie can throw bombs and belongs in a lower league KOing lesser fighters. i think rich franklin and hendo would blow through lawler as well.
baroni was lost on his feet vs shamrock. shamrock is good but he aint no anderson silva. silva would KO baroni faster than frankie knocked his block off.
gono fights at 170
silva's viable fight options would be:
Shamrock: He beat up baroni and still looks to be a good fighter with improved striking. i think age would catch up quick though and a faster silva would kill him.
Okami: Okami is an asian monster with insane strength. HE has decent striking and good gnp. Of course silva has the DQ loss to him, so revenge is a good storyline. however okami's striking isnt on the same level of anderson. mike swick had okami hurt and stunned on his feet , twice in their fight. now if swick landed shots to stun him, anderson is going to land shots to KTFO him.
Almeida: Ricardo is the only other guy the UFC has at 185 who would be interesting to see against silva. Almeida is a fucking SICK grappler and boasts wins over nate marquardt and chonan (who has the sub win over silva). MAybe they could give Almeida a really high profile bout for his next fight?? let him get a name and then set him towards the title.
MAtt Lindland: the ugliest fighter in all of MMA and possibly the only high profile 185er silva hasnt blown through. lindland has a ton of great wins at 185 but some tough losses to guys like terrell. who knows where he stands as a 185er though? his last fights against fedor (a hw), horn, newton (2 washed up ex-ufc fighters) and rampage (a lhw). dont really tell us if his skills are still all there...he needs to fall in with eliteXc so at least he could fight shamrock, lawler, ninja and even cung le.
really though, if anderson blows through Okami, I wanna see him go up and fight rampage or down to fight GSP.

watch filho vs sonnen or filho vs doerkson and tell me he'd beat anderson.

I don't care how sub par Baroni or Lawler may be. Both guys are always fun to watch.
In all seriousness i think one of the best mathcups for Anderson is a *healthy Denis Kang.
His stock went down alot after his two losses, but the guy's been going through a shitload of injury healing and emotional loss.
I think if he's back on his game, like how he was in 2006, he'd present the biggest challenge of standup/ground skill.

Kang's chin doesnt impress me AT ALL.
i think he is a great striker, but silva hits soooo fucking hard, one good tap on the chin and kang would be down.
i wonder how silva hits so fucking hard?? i mean his power is unbelievable... even other MMA fighters on the UG cant explain how he does it. small lean muscles and punches like a 240lb HW. i was watching old Silva Muay Thai fights and even with gloves on he was flooring guys. dudes were hitting him flush and then he would hit back and just murder them instantly.
speaking of 185ers, filho checked himself into rehab in brazil. word is he got hooked on fucking "Paco", which is smokable cocaine manufacturing residue. the shit is RAVAGING south america right now. its an epidemic....basically a south american crack

His loss to Akiyama was very dissappointing.
He looked so promising.
But apparently he hasn't been the same since his fiancee commit suicide.
I think there are still alot of good challenges for silva, although the UFC will never let Matt Lindland back in.
