Where will Lord Stanley reside this spring?

I used to hate the Penguins when Jagr and Robetielle played there.... back when they'd drag the capitals into QUADRUPLE and TRIPLE overtimes frequently in the playoffs.
I don't hate the Pens anymore... but I've got a feeling they'll take it.
All these other teams have been either really inconsitent or have all this internal turmoil but I think the Pens might do it... and WITHOUT Crosby.

Don't forget Crosby is back in shape by now ! Also , there are some wicked teams in the West conference. Internal turmoils don't seem to be stopping the Red Wings machine much. Since the change of rules, the standing is very close and I think anyone can win the Stanley Cup.. even the Oilers made it from rank 8 to the Finals in 2006.

Oh boo..everyone pisses and moans about the old days being better.
There haven't been any real fun players to watch since Fedorov and Lindros in the mid 90;s...
But that's changing now. Ovechkin puts on a fuckin shojw every night. I've never seen anyone that just brute forces his way past the blue line with the puck and just PUSHES the defenders out of the way.... scoring like HALF the time he does it... even though these guys KNOW he's going to do it.
Plus there are still some good ol' enforcers out there ready to put on a different KIND of show... Chris Simon... Hell.. DONALD BRASHEAR... Don't FUCK with a 6'3" 240lb BLACK man on ICE!
That's all the league needs,,, is some more enforcers. We have plenty of great goal scorers... but they're all on shitty teams . How the fuck does that work? You got Lecav/StLuois .. two of the best on Tampa Bay who's garbage right now. Hell they have three people with 20+ goals! Kovalchuck is #2 in goals.. and he's on ATLANTA!!! ANother shitty team.
And my boy OV with my caps... hell... we'll be lucky to make the playoffs! And we've got the best guy that NHL has seen in years along with the highest goal scoring Defenseman and the best rookie in the NHL!

After tommorrow night, the caps will be right behind them
Biron's good, but not great.
As far as offense.. no superstars but the talent seems spread out and even enough... they're kinda lookin like NJ circa... oh... i dunno.. 94?
I saw NJ vs DET that year on a 10 foot TV every night. Sucked it was because I was working as a bus boy in a busy ass restaurant.... but by 10pm everyone was so drunk that that didn't seem to care that I was just sitting there watching the games

Oh common , don't give me that old ''we need more enforcers'' thing. What's so fun about watching a fat guy who can't keep up with the rest of the team , hooking away and starting lame fights to cheer up the crowd from a boring game ( say , any New Jersey game)?
The league has never been more entertaining , the skill level is huge in every position. Of course , the goalscorers are amazing nowadays , but don't forget some of the best ( and biggest) goalers have made their appearances too. I haven't seen a 5-goal-night for a player in a looong time... Gretzky got a couple of those.
Enjoy the playoffs , hope we can keep a healthy discussion about them in here...but the newspaper here are saying the Canadiens are in for the Cup !

Too bad it is a team sport, or having the best player might make a bigger difference. I've found it is better to judge a team by the depth of the third/fourth line rather than the skill of the first.

Don't bitch at me man.. I'm on your side. I think it's just as entertaining now as it ever was.. I'm just sayin we need more enforcers like Al Iafrate.... just all around power. Played D just because he was best at fucking people up, but the man could SCORE.
The only difference no is that all the superstars are young'ins.
I'm glad we (the caps) got sergei federov. He's got 16 years in and he's what some people would call a "has been", being a superstar that would put up 100pts in a season and now can only score maybe 10-20...
But the way I see it.. he's more of a COACH on skates during the game than he is someone out there to score points for us. The caps have plenty of offense. They don't need anymore... they need someone who can take ppl like OV and Semin and help them acheieve their full potential.
Unlike Roenick.. who used to put up big numbers and now just sits there and cries all day.. scoring 20 pts a season

Naaa... he had a 4 goal night a couple weeks ago.. then in the 10-2 rout of the bruins he had 3 goals, 2 assists... 1 assist WOULD have gone in either way, but it tapped Brooks Laich's stick before going in, so OV just got the assist.
Although.. ALL THREE GOALS were in the first period. Pretty badass eh?

OV's a team player. His 7 game goal drought last month I think was just him trying to set up his teammates more. He's a team player ... never boasts or anything. Each interview he keeps saying how he's rather just get his team in the playoffs rather than just score goals. Brudeu has been mixing and matching the top three lines just to make everyone undertands their chemistry and he's trying to finally work some vets in there to make everything stick.
The entire team just seems to have the healthiest attitude right now as far as what they have to do... just be patient, learn, keep your heads down and be humble.
And I think it's paying off.. Alex semin came back slumping and now he's finally back in his goal scoring groove... And their third line is slowly getting more and more goals towards the end of the season, consitently. The whole team is just getting more cohesive and consistent... completely opposite from a year or two ago.
... that's why it's gonna be fun to watch their game against pittsburg this weekend... and old, old rivalry and an excuse to get a little nasty.

This is the caps team I miss watchin''
No one fucks with Don Beupre... or he'll take the gloves off.
Kolzig plays the same way. He's carrying the torch from the old caps team. That's why I *really* hope they make it in the next year or two.. he aint got that many years left in his career and I'd like to see him get a win after 5 billion years with the same team.

Don't forget about the Capitals' new goaler : Huet. He may well replace Kolzig next year , as he has recently proven in Montreal to have to potential to be one of the best.
