Oh nice...Hey I was just wondering if anyone had had any luck in the Waikato region yet?
I've been looking all over the place and so far nothing active. Plenty of others though so I'm not losing hope yet

Hi i am new in new zealand, from south africa, currrently staying in auckland,i do not have much mushroom hunting experience at all,but am very amped on finding some magic mushrooms, but am very sceptical on which ones to pick because only have refernces from off the net,was wondering if anyone one knew of cool books to get???....went hunting the other day in woodhill forest, found some mushrooms that looked like aucklandii.... just wondering if there is any dangerous species that look very similiar?? the ones i found were quite small but darker than most the pics i have seen on the net? also found one other looking mushroom, have no idea what it is.... sorry for all the questions but have no idea where else to look for some info on hunting..... how many magic mushroom species are there in auckland? any help would be awesome....thanks,will post pics soon...

post pics and they can be identified, otherwise no matter what sort of description, we cannot be 100% sure.

The above info is generally considered out of date, it was before Ps. subaeruginsoa was made out of various species etc, but its a good read any way. If you really want excellent information just look through the previous New Zealand threads, plenty of finds and hints, there's loads of pages to get through.

Any help with identifying these dried up mushrooms? I'm quite new to hunting and identifying.. found these today in wellington and am not sure if I'm anywhere near in my uneducated guess that some might be liberty caps? It's a huge pic so you may want to dl and use a utility to unzoom to the right size. Thanks!

West central Auckland is all good. Got some more subs here in Welly, and found a tiny little weraroa which is a first for me, pretty stoked. So far in Wellington I haven't found any decent patches though, but I'm leaving small bits of stalk around so hopefully there'll be some more patches next year.

Gday hunters. Nearly positive I found a patch of Gymnopilus yesterday. I'll post pics this week but I warn you, I'm new so there wont be any props comin my way. Just reading and learning at this stage. Despite the horrible taste I keep reading about I can't find much about gyms. It looks like a large species with not much sub-classification and nothing NZ specific.
-haunted, i see you've some experience with these. Are they worth my time to go back for or should I just keep looking for subs?
Anyone with gym facts or opinions chime in. Cheers all!

I have never been fortunate enough to find any Subs but a mate handed me a Mycelium clump from one of his sites last year, to which I then made up a small grow box, filled with mulch and left in my garden in a shelterd spot away from the sun.
Yesterday I decided to check up on it and I found vast amounts of mycelium colonized throughout the mulch, so here's hoping come the cold weeks ahead
PS guys here's a REALLY good Spawn to card-board TEK that anyone can do. Here you can colonize many places and spread the goodness around

Well it's all go in Hamiltron. My usual patch just sprung to life after all the rain yesterday, powerful little subs too. Only had to have a few small ones and I had a very good trip
Keep an eye out everyone

These are the gym's I was asking about:

These ones (probably nothing) were in the same area, not sure if you can see it in the pics as well as on the day but where the caps broke they were really bright blue... looks a bit green in the pic.

Weird, the gill color says no, but that bluing says yes.. They look similar to P. panaeolus - which i doubt is in NZ, but you never know what people have seeded areas with.
I have found definate subs that had a very greenish 'bluing' - i suggest making a post for you find.
Nice gyms by the way

I hope someone knows what that is Hence, I agree you should do an ID request, I wonder what it is it would be awesome if it were active.. but that is a strange colour and doesn't really look like any bruising I have seen, it seems too natural less like bruising and those stems are pretty strange, looks like a plant it's weird.
