Rained *heaps* late sunday, monday, and tuesday. Went for a look in the bush today(tuesday) and only found a few amanita's in a patch, just young ones, still in a bulb, was a patch of them with a couple of old rotten full grown ones in it too. Found some pouch fungus, about 10 or so spread out about 20 square m, sort of yellow/white, cracked at the top with rain drops hittin them and spores coming out(i even saw it as it was raining when i was hunting). Found some REAL funky looking tree fungus, you know that hard shit that grows in plate type form, heaps of it and some of it quite big too.
Didnt find anything worth eating though! Quite disappointing really.
Something i have noticed - NZ bush is a BITCH to move through. Seriously, its like, so fucking dense, theres fucking spider webs EVERYWHERE that always get on your face, lots of low hanging branches to hit your head on and get shit all over your face for us tall people, and generally annoying to get through and you know, some of it is so dence you cant even get through ffs.. maybe i should invest in a machete!
Ohwell, ill try again tomorrow!

Ya i do sometimes, but it gets tedious and they end up going across my face anyway. Its not too bad considering that we have no poisonous spiders(well, 2 very rare ones) but it just drives me nuts you know.

Hi folks,
I don't usually visit these forums but I usually pop in when the season is starting to get a gauge on what's going on.
Without further ado, here's a little something from central Auckland:

For a bit more info, it was found today in a heavily shaded bush. Looks like things are starting to swing!
Good luck everyone and make sure to check out a thread I will post soon enough on the various mushrooms I found in todays hunt.

Nice find! Look very tasty, though if the membrain of the mushroom hasnt broken off from the stem, its not yet ripe/ready and should be left for a little more growth.

Hello!
OK so its rained heaps(HEAPS) for the last 4 days, and i went out to check the little mulch/bark reserve next to my house just earlier, and found some large mushrooms. Dont know what they are, waiting for bruising and spore print right now.
Anyway, i found heaps of mycellum.. like, HEAPS of patches. About 20 or so, some of them about 3 square feet. They are growing just under the bark/on the bark. Anyway, what should i do? I dont think its going to rain much in the next week. Would it be wise to water these patches? Or should i just leave them be?

Hey Mushyhunter, I'd ignore the bark places, unless there is woodchips mixed in, they don't really seem to grow on bark. You shouldn't need to water them, especially if you don't know where/if the actives are yet, don't think it would do any harm thoguh.
Can't wait till some more subs come out. Those liberty caps look awesome haunted, are they from Wellington?

I would be really keen on trying them, they sound interesting. I didn't even realise you could get them in the Wellington region.

Hey,
I finally found a pair of innocent little Subaeruginosa's in a patch of bark garden that I inoculated with spores two years ago. These only weighed in at 3.3grams(400mg dry), so heres me naively thinking I would be lucky to get much of them, but I tried anyway while they were still only one day old.
HOLLY! About 45mins after ingestion I just couldn't believe that I was almost being propelled into a full trip, WOW these tinny shrooms mean business. I am quite experienced with Subs and often take at least 3 times this in dry equivalent, so in theory these should only be above threshold dose in my experience. But not these ones, it was like having a casual glass of wine, only for it to knock me in the ass like a whole bottle would in one go. My only conclusion to their strength was that it is first flush of the season(so plenty of nutrients) and their small mature size.
In my experience comparing these Subs to home grown Cubensis, the strength was equivalent in fresh weight to at least 15-20grams of Cubs. That would make them over 5 times stronger than Cubensis!
