my philosophy is that you can never be to cautious when hunting, never know when it'll pay off.

Good point, just it's a busy road and I've seen the cops go past a few times when I've been picking there. Probably unhealthy paranoia eh? Haha.

Went to a forest last night. Lots of fly a. but not much on anything else. Anyone ever have much luck finding sub's in forest? I've only found them in bark in the city *wahh*

Well, cops usually have a rough idea of the season and the heavily hunted sites. I know in chch they know of the Brighton hunting areas. On the net they say you can find subs in pine forests, but i have never found them in actual forests, only on old bark mulch, not the chunky stuff but the nicely ground up fine stuff. Usually has to be a few years old as well.

Damn how many days after its rained would you guys say its good to go have a looksy in the bush? The mulch/bark reserve near my property hasnt sprung any up and it had plenty of mushrooms when it rained like, 3 weeks ago, but unsure of how long after it had rained.

Its been 2 days, rekon it would be a good day tomorrow? Bark is still wet.

I was having a good search through cow pastures with not one sign of a mushroom in Christchurch.......Is this where you even expect to find them? Previous years I've looked through cow paddocks with no luck, so I've just stuck to Subs and seem to find enough of them.

I found lots of mushrooms(non active) popping up in my little reserve near my house which is covered in mulch/bark shit. Found some very interesting ones, so far over the last month ive found atleast 15 different species. One of the ones i found today were quite large, about 10cm diameter and brown on top, dark brown. were quite thick and solid, and had a rather thick stem which was about 7cm high. Brown gills. Found about 5 of these, almost looked identicle to edible mushrooms you see in the supermarket besides being brown on top.

Damn i wish i had a camera! Im going into the bush right now and will see what i can find, hopfully some actives but if not ohwell.

Im in waitakere/west auckland btw.

hmmm.... I see alot of good places that I think subs would like down here in hamilton.... However, can't stop thinking about how dodgey it is to go search these places.

Its not time to look yet as I haven't even seen any fly a. around, way to dry still.

Anyway if there is anyone keen in the hamilton area to meet up for a hunt when the time comes I'm interested

Well after having a look in the waitakere ranges for a while i found a few mushrooms. Found some amanita's and about 2 or 3 other types of mushrooms, but no actives unfortunatly. Will have another look in a week or so.
