Awesome, they arent Psilocybe makarorae. It is more likely they are a Weraroa novaezelandiae variant or a whole new Weraroa (sub)species all together. They are definately not sub variants.

They're most certainly not the same as the puch fungus....very distinctively different external appearance and you will note that the veil is still lifted meanin gthey drop spores as opposed to relying on birds or insects to spread....most definitely a cross between subs and wearoa in appearance. Also of note is the really distinctie growth patterns...these pouchy puppies grow in great fuck off clumps...some clumps were as big as 20 thick all tying back to a single mycelial root that could be picked up...it looked liek a brain. VERY hard to pick these without pulling up a wee bit of the ground...very low lying indeed.
see thread here; http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5627554
its actually funny because this variant has received very little attention on these boards over the years but as far as im aware...most aucklanders who know their mushrooms but dont know anything technical refer to this strain as 'blue meanies'...

The gills are never exposed per-se...they just have a clear opening in them around the stalk unlike the wearoas that look sealed tight.
They also grow in standard mulch type substrate...i thought the wearoa liked clumps of decaying wood and trees? (I've never seen a wearoa irl...)

Hey here's my second attempt This is fo'real this time. found around central Auckland, thank you rain!!

I saw heaps of the 'fakes', the 'strophys' in the same spots.. But yeah I can tell them apart now I think, fakes have way redder caps, thinner, browner stems, and 'crisper' gills. And of course they don't bruise blue ;p
And I have two questions, as a mushroom newbie.. How can I store these, how long can they last? What kinda dosage to I have here?

Storage is easy, dry them out with a fan heater for 3-4 hours (place them on paper towels and let the air blow over them). Then wrap them up in the towels and put them in a jar with a satchel of desiccants (calcium nitrate is a great, cheap option). Leave them for 24-48 hours until crispy dry, leave in jar or move into other storage options. If using nitrates remove them to stop gradual oxidization. They will keep for months like this. Or you can add them to natural honey (manuka is the best, you may need to heat it slightly). In honey shrooms will store for years and years.
And you have about 2 trips worth there. Good luck
