found a whole bunch of these in some bush on an old fallen tree...any ideas? any chance of being active? i noticed a fair few had already been picked.. all quite small, blue/greyish colour, can get some better pics if needed.

Thank you so much hippies56 and zee_werp for helping us identify them.
A friend said that we had blue meanies and gold tops.
And told us we can chew about 8 each or boil them up.
He even ate a couple, so not really sure what to think.
I think we need some help from a professional.
The Waitakeres is a very big place, so I'd start with parking at a reserve and walking down by the bush,. don't let the ranger see you haha, Let me know what you come across.
So keen to try some mushies just for the experience!!!!!!!

Naive and inexperienced people should be wary of the consequences of using magic mushrooms, both health-wise and legally, Dunedin police say.
People needed to be aware that magic mushrooms contained an active ingredient called psilocybin, which could have some ‘‘extremely bad side-effects'' on the taker, ‘‘including death'', Snr Sgt Aitken said.
"including death" Yet again this comment has NO BASIS IN SCIENTIFIC FACT! Also worth noting that the psilocybin ID50 for a rat is 280mg/kg, injected. In other words that is equivalent to an average human ingesting AT LEAST 35kg's of fresh Cubensis.
It sounds to me the Dunediun police are the ones who are naive and inexperienced.

hey pihablondes ur mate is probably extremely lucky that they weren't poisionious did he report feeling any effects unfortunately i don't have any spots to share with you but am planning at some stage this weekend to go out and have a look prolly try the waitakaries send me a pm if u may be interested coming for a look i can show you what you need to look for etc.. you defintly don't want to be eating the wrong ones thats forsure

Well, I'm a complete newbie to (psychoactive) mushroom hunting, I've been casually searching but nothing too in-depth as of yet.
Well, I'm going into Wellington city tomorrow/Monday, and I'm wondering what kinda places I should be looking? I heard the Botanical Gardens is a good place to look...

try the boatanical gardens near the seats in the kids play ground its a pretty well known spot so good luck

Cheers. and to be a bitch, some others i found the same day. yellowish/gold, 5-15cm diameter, slightly lighter coloured gills. found on and around old tree-stumps in damp bush area. any ideas? is it getting too late in the piece to find much in duds? i tried peninsula ways with no luck. heard allens beach is lucky? any tips from helpful dunedinites?

Excuse me,
I just have to say, that New Zealand is the friendliest of places. It's actually VERY RARE to come across any deadly species on these islands. That is not to say you wont, but there is far too much scare mongering going on for my liking.
I've picked 'em from too many places to be unassured, but they used to have a poem about me...
...tell you what it was another time...
The funny thing, to me ,is that people don't use their sense of smell, which is the best indicator of psilo's, in my not so humble opinion.
WHen poeple are correctly trained, and it doesn;t take much, mistakes do NOT occur.

^^ I wouldn't be so sure..........I have seen many poisonous lookalikes growing amongst the Subaeruginosa species(gold tops). It only takes one bad apple to cause liver failure in 3 days.

Was picked in the Coromandel Peninsula behind a field around 3 gum trees.

To 'idontcare', those look like Galerinas, a toxic species. Do NOT eat them.
And masterxenn, you're full shit mate, mistakes can and do still happen. Deadly galerinas look very similar to subs even to the semi-trained eye, and share a habitat. And you just told this guy they're fine. Those things KILL you. I've also come across many shrooms that smell like a psilocybe but are not. So don't run around instilling people with a false sense of security. When it comes to ingesting wild shrooms, the upmost caution is always advised.
I've been into mycology for years and your statements are going against the types of advice most seasoned shroomers would be giving.
Sure it may be rare to come across a deadly animal on these islands, but we have plenty of crazy ass fungi and plants to deal with if you're going to get into foraging.

Hey im New to this forum as a user i have been casually browsing for a while. Im in the hamilton area and would like to know if there anyone else using this forum that also lives in hamilton and would maybe like to meet up for a hunt as im very poor in knowledge of a good spot.

Haha, sup jayden. Brad told me you disappeared on a binge or something? If your up these ways again i can show ya what to look for, where. Orchards are pretty much the best bet for subs, south side of the hedges to be even more accurate. If anyone asks just say you work for zespri and are doing some sort of analysis - but it is really much better not to be seen at all. There are heaps of great pics on here to show you what to look out for.

hey guys! well took about two subs last night(they were not totally dry though and fairly large) and nothing much happened... felt a lil funny but nothing crazy! 1.do they get stronger when they are dry becuase all the other mushies i have ever taken have been dry and i have always gone to the moon!3. how many middle size subs would be recommended for a fairly decent trip? i have many times taken 1gram of cubenis before(grown indoors) and been seriously overs! haha. 3.also is it true that mushies are stronger when younger becuase i have also taken 2 or 3 pin heads before and tripped balls! thanks! hope everyone is having good luck!

Why is it that there seem to be 2 types of mushies I have come across that look very similar (what I would call subs or gold tops) but are of 2 different strengths.
A mate from the coro peninsula finds these mushies that require you to have taken handfulls to get decent effects and the ones I've always found seem to only require 5-8 mushies for great effects (even less in lemon juice)
Back when I first started hunting another mate said they use to boil up hundreds at once between 4-5 people. I thought that was insane as the ones I was finding were super potent. I finally come across these weak ones the other day from a mate and they are hugely weaker yet a very similar, just don't blue so much??
Any ideas people?

hey camo can you give us some pics or more of a description, ie were they found in the same habitat/substrate, what are the macro differences..?
The subaeruginosa species is highly variable and several things can influence their potency & physical characteristics..
Plus, if you're boiling them then you will be breaking down the less stable active elements in the mushrooms (ie psilocin, baeocystin) and therefore losing a lot of the potency. For best results, eat them fresh.
