They're about as potent as subaeruginosa, which is fairly strong. A standard strong dose is about 2 grams.
As for growing Aucklandii outdoors in your garden; I wouldn't know. Try it and see if it works. You may want to get a bunch of soil from the forest and spread that around. Let us know if it works, because it can be tiring hacking through thick NZ forest :P

dude CK.. you should know by now that libs dont grow in akl... none of those are active. bottom one possibly p. aucklandii - but i highly, highly doubt it because of the gills.
look for p. aucklandii, w. novaezelandiae and the obvious and plague like p. subaeruginosa.

Do Weraroa-nz or others of the same species have deadly look-alikes?

Cheers!

nice haul RavisT!
hence, those look like weraroa nz. I have found look-a-likes, but I wouldn't know if they're poisonous. probably they'd be poisonous though by the look/smell of them

A couple of Psilocybe aucklandii from the small area I discovered 20 meters from my house last may, these were found on the same date as the first specimen from last year!
The strains seem to be not as robust as the P. aucklandii found in the local pine forests here in Auckland, the entire patch is only about four meters square, hopefully it gets bigger inski..

Haunted what do you mean by, "they'd probably be poisonous." Did you mean the look of the once I'd posted? And what sort of smells should I be avoiding / searching for?
Cheers.

Sheepish said: Reasonably good action out in the forests today (but getting into the forest has proven more tricky as the gorse thickens). Mostly small ones which I left, but a few medium sized and a couple of bigger ones.
Most of the Aucklandii in the pictures weren't picked as they were too small.

whoa this are the best pictures of aucklandii i have look , all people take then when they are too old is really as inski said they look like some mexican beutys .impresive the similarities .....

hey guys first time poster here from wanganui. i got a question for you guys. i've been following this thread and reading a few others on the board as well as archives of previous seasons.
if it rains a bit more this week i'm going to head to a costal pine forest out of town. i used to go there a lot when i was younger and i remember there being a HEAPS of fungi, especially amanitas. is it likely i'll find subs here, or possibly even ps. aucklandii. there's lots of nice patches of grass between sections of forest and stuff and i read somewhere about subs growing in the grasses in a lot of costal pine forests. hate to be a noob but if it's not worth wasting my time cruising out there i'll keep searching wood chip gardens and some reputed local spots.
real determined to find and identify some actives.
oh yeah and if there's anyone else out there from wanganui drop me a PM to say hi
chur

watup wanganui, Im not far from wangas myself. We havnt had the rainfall for a decent shroom season yet, might not go hard till june-july aye. Ive herd there a place out kaitoke forest they call 'shroom valley' haven't been there myself but is meant to be plentiful of subs. Also a mate that picks subs went there with his mate and they were picking what he described sounds like aucklandii? good luck mate! Ive heard of locals that pick subs also getting 'blue meanies' but not sure what they are referring too. Ive got my own sub patch at home they been growing 2-3 weeks now but i started watering my patch in summer and have been watering it since cause the wind keeps drying it out. my patch today:

chur for the reply bro. yeah i've been praying for rain all week so i can go hunting on the weekend, and it's been really clear . for both our sakes i hope we get some mean rains soon.
kaitoke is close as, i'm pretty sure i can find my way to the forest, and "shroom valley" from there, cheers heaps for the tip, hope no one jumps on you for giving too specific a location.
peace and good luck with your backyard patch, looking good!

Hi all...been a while...
Have been on a couple of trips and have been completely unsuccessful...not even anything remotely resembling a psilocybe...very dissapointing.
Very impressed with all those aucklandii photos...
CK: Don't look for liberty caps...don't bother with wearoa either to be honest...look for aucklandii or sub's...i've never found aucklandii myself but i've found it easier to rinse the subs

Hey wanganui...I'd recommend going for a look. I've been keeping an eye on my patch all week and even though there's been no rain my subs have grown to a nice size. I think as long as they're out of direct sunlight and no-ones raided the patch since it rained last, you'd be damned unlucky not to find any. (Assuming actives grow around there. ).
Woodchip gardens have always been my gold mine so I've never had to look in the forest but it'd probably be worth going out there. Go out there and take a note of what's around if you're unsure, write down colour, size, bruising, shape and spore print colour if you find anything promising. Photo's are good too.

wow, sheepish - great pics
I'm quite sure I have seen shrooms exactly like that before but have never thought them to be active. Were they found in native bush with pine trees (as I see the pine needles), or in like a pine plantation?
