trying to figure out some borders... and was wondering how far inland from the gulf you have to be to stop finding cubes in moderate amounts?

Yeah im familiar with the "map" but I was looking for more of a distance map instead of by state - like, how many miles into Texas in whatever direction do they stop? and coming up from louisiana or into arkansas or whatever?

that document is pretty outdated, doesn't have fricosas anywhere, and if you took that document at face value, people in so-cal would think there are no active species in there area, probably because john allen is one of the authors, and he denies anything he hasn't seen first hand.

Wild cubensis mushrooms have the ability to grow a good distance away from the tropical climates within the United States; provided that there is still enough humidity, pastures, and not too brutal of winter temps.
I have heard enough reports from Tennessee and seen photos, so I believe it.
People in North Carolina have reported them also.
And a friend of mine who lived in Kansas was finding them often enough. And observed the cubensis returning every year, into winter with patches of snow next to large cubensis mushrooms. I remember another Kansas shroomer who was also finding wild cubensis while a dusting of snow and frost had been on the ground for a while.
Texas is, really a very large state. A good portion of Texas is arid desert. Implee or someone else in Texas might be able to give a better idea about the distribution of wild cubensis mushrooms around that area.

Seems about a hour or so drive east of Dallas is the furthest north they commonly are I here. But I think if you looked at pastures around large lakes, that could help.

Yeah yeah all, this rain in tx should ramp up the myc production for the coming months. I found an awesome field by a pretty awesome lake. The turds were abundant, well stacked, and the field is what I refer to as 'dank'. Dank fields are ones that are nearby sources of water, have a spring running through them, or are in any other way more humid, damp, unkempt and treefilled than other open pastures. In my travels, I have found that as you get closer to the gulf, the pastures are more and more like this. You have to think about it this way, where the dank pastures are most dense, there will be a larger distribution of spores in the area. I have had no luck around dallas, but I never looked east. Austin and central texas have pockets, but not as much as houston/galveston/southern LA. Good huntin

The closer you can get to the gulf coast, the better your chances are. Austin, San Antonio are as far west as you should go. I would also stay south or east of DFW area too. I also know that Corpus Christi can produce also, but how much further south I do not know. I have never heard of any findings around Brownsville.

I am from Texas. I have hunted North of Houston as far as Tomball. I know people who have found mushrooms in Huntsville, Dallas, College Station.
Personal, Ive only ever hunted cubes..so I have found good amount of cubes over the years throughout the north houston suburbs and farming communities.

I haven't bothered to look at cow pastures in the area. But I always hear there's no point, because it's not near humid enough around here.

What kind of humidity does DFW have? I'm SW of Ft. Worth and its pretty dry(the humidity is usually under 50%) around here. I've only looked briefly but I've only seen inactive pans...

I can. I have found them NW of Waco, but not in a few years. Kinda thought I'd have found some last year but no luck.

Yeah, I'd say if I were to go somewhere from Dallas, it'd probably be south of Tyler, or around Waco.
