Favre tells Packers he's retiring

"Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire." "ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that according to Favre's agent, Bus Cook, Favre informed Packers coach Mike McCarthy of his decision Monday night."
He was a great QB.

About 3% of people who follow sports for more than 8 minutes a year are surprised by his rumored "comeback".
What's dude coming back from? The off season? Athletes have it made do they not??

The funny thing is that the old decrepit shell of Favre is still better than every QB in the NFC North.

i knew the original press conference farve gave at retirement wasn't the whole story. he hinted at a few things if you listen carefully. Then you have family and friends saying the organization could have done more to make him feel more welcomed back, and "now" they are saying they did...w/e.
i think the packers gave him the boot, I'm guessing the biggest reason is health factors, a dead or paralyzed Heroic QB would look bad. He's had ALOT of close calls the last few years.
I think alot of what your hearing in the news could be twisted. The packers do not want him back, thats why they drafted TWO qb's.
Personally i think he has been a burden to the team at times, but then again he's never had a dam solid running back. Its always came down to that in all the deciding games for as many years as i can remember, his receivers can't get open and his running backs don't do squat.
But even being an old man that makes mistakes, he's always made the packers the funniest team to watch
im sure his contract states he can never make public statements talking down on the nfl, so bear that in mind when you weigh the offical story's that have been released.

Fucking Christ though
Favre, let it fucking go. If he dons another uniform his legacy will truly be tarnished. Enough is e fucking nough already. Fuckin'a the Packers want him out. His time is up. He's already ruined his retirement. WTF is next, a baseball career? Sure he had a great season last year but still he couldn't hang in the brutal cold, it's painful to watch.

i think that could be another reason he retired, i been rereading the news and they said they would accept him back but would have to make it "easier" on roger or something long those lines. I think they told him he would have to compete for starter and that he prob wouldn't get it. To that effect farve prob thought it would be better just retiring rather than being a backup the next few years which would put him out like drew bledsoe
I also remember back when he retired he said one of the things he hated most was the camp or w/e, he just wished he could play sundays and do the practices, not compete with his team and take all that other extra responsability.
I actually think farve would be better off on another team now that i think about it. I bet someone else he would win the super bowl. I don't think the packers ever really had good planning. Part of it could be the huge cap farve put on the team i guess.

I can only assume you havent watched the Packers the last few seasons. They have made it clear they didnt really want him since about 2003 (maybe earlier if you want to get into a debate). He wants to play and obviously he can still play. There were only 7 (if my memory serves me) quarterbacks that hit the 4000 yard mark last season, favre was one of them. To say that he "couldn't hang" is a ridiculous statement.

Yeah, I have to agree. Me telling one of the all time greats who's still bringing 85% of his A game to the table and was inches away from going to the Super Bowl is kinda crazy. I swear they won't release him because (in part) the Bears would snatch him up faster than you could say Sexy Rexy.

Favre has ruined his legacy. However, if you read "The Dark Side of the NFL" by former Falcons TE Tim Green he discusses the excruciating pain it is for an NFL player to retire. He calls it "the second death".
That being said, I wish Favre would just bow out gracefully like John Elway did.

they are now trying to fine and take draft picks from the vikings wtf!! essentially they are using scare tactics on anyone that would possibly want farve! they say they "influenced" farve or some bullshit like that wtf ever. if your wanting to play again and your team dont want you back wtf do they care who you "talk" to then. they are just trying to screw farve over any way they can and make sure he don't play again.

Bret Favre = petulant schoolgirl. I had no reason to think ill of him, I don't give a flying fuck about the Packers, but he is just a gold plated cuntideluvian asshole with this stunt. Hey Mary, men make decisions. Not all of them result in interceptions that end your career. Get over it fuckwad.
