I want to have some Bufo Alvarius toads shipped either by mail from USA to Canada, or by car (I have a friend in mind). WHat kind of permits do I need to make this legal?

who knows, look up export reuirments for the US and this stuff
better to do your homework ahead of time. Or you could try and get the US post office to give you an answer as to their requirements and whatever US customs requires.
Hopefully once it clears the US, CA will recognize its not a regulated animal, but ya never know w/ governments... especially CA. Their customs seems to be pretty nitpicky from what I hear.. prolly due to the low import tax exemptions you guys have

You need a permit (usually a small game license) to collect most sorts of wildlife. Not hard to get.
Just transporting them shouldn't be a problem. A cop would have to be a real dick to hassle you about it. But I wouldn't like a park ranger or DNR to come across me if I was transporting one in an area where they naturally live.

I dont believe BBB would be selling the toads of there was a problem with possession of them in the US, of course here possessing them with intent to use the secretions for a psychoactive substance would

If there was an issue with customs, they would most likely seize the toads and send you a notice of what they took and why. I am pretty sure you are good to go. Call Customs and get your answer.
I hope you understand how much of a pain in the ass toads are. Keep children and pets away from them.
BTW: those BBB t-shirts are funny as hell.
