that is how our casing is pasteurized. It goes a little higher for a shorter time.
The substrates are pasteurized at 145 for 2 hours. Then at 160 for 3hrs. It takes this long to heat the bags up. I believe our site says that directly. On a rare occurrence the substrates may reach 170. However, i've seen substrates pasteurized at 185 and produce amazing results. 190 is where it's getting too high. and 195 you're in to the beginning of sterilization.

Why? Especially when it's in a pillow case

to ensure ample pasteurization all the way through. These pillow cases take a while to reach the correct core temp.

I ordered the basic substrate, unpasteurized. It arrived today and has small chunks of manure and a lot of "straw." I am not going to pass judgement until I have tried it, but I got the product in a black plastic trash bag stuffed in a mailing box.
Upon opening it, if I had to guess, it looks like someone took a lawnmower and mowed a field that had horses grazing and instead of bagging it in trashbags and putting it on the curb, they sold it. I will, as I said, hold off judgement until trying it, but there was no vacuum packing and the product looks nothing like what is on the site.

and my big mac looks nothing like it does in the pictures on the menu lol, just kidding. i would imagine there is no need to seal it if it is unpasteurized as you said. as far as the other part, like you said, maybe it will be just fine. good luck. glad to see your holding judgment, can be hard to do sometimes, but with so many good responses from customers of this vendor, i'd take some comfort in that.

this mix is unpasteurized and there is no need for vacuum packing. The mix is 50/50 poo strawwith some verm, straw is much fluffier than poo. Once you pasteurize and hydrate this substrate it will have a good working consistency, fast colonization, and an ample amount of poo to carry out multiple large flushes.
