breakfast ideas
    #8086903 - 02/29/08 04:33 PM (9 months, 16 hours ago)

So I went to the doctor the other day and apparently all my problems will be solved by eating a good healthy breakfast every morning. Sounds like of simplistic, but I'm definitely willing to give it a try, the only thing is I've never been in the habit of eating breakfast, so I don't know what people usually eat for breakfast. I mean, I make waffles/pancakes and bacon and eggs on the weekends when I've got 3 hours to kill cooking and washing up, but I don't really want to get into a big production on an average Tuesday morning. I've made oatmeal with dates or raisins and walnuts a few times, but that gets old pretty fast.

What are your favorite breakfast recipes?

yes, but they can't make up their minds if it's "bad" or "good" cholesterol

op: oatmeal is great, quick if you soak them for a few hours/overnite, and very diverse. mix up the fruits, spices, and nuts you put in there.

some older guy this afternoon was telling me to try oatmeal and tuna. sounds weird, but i might give it a shot

Man my oats say that they'll be ready in 5 minutes after I boil a pot of water.

Doesn't say anything about soaking them over night.

He maybe talking about real oatmeal, irish steel cut oatmeal, which when soaked overnite, cooks faster.

Irish steel cut is the only kind oatmeal I eat, and it takes 30 minutes to cook if you don't soak it, but the flavor and the texture is well worth it the wait.

I usually try to eat a healthy breakfast. I usually make an egg white omlette, with a pinch of kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, and topped off with a bit of salsa. Pretty much fat free except for the oil you use to cook it.

I buy this Indian Nan bread from my local Whole Foods and fry it in a little bit of butter, then drench it in syrup. And make sure you have a couple of thick slices of ham to fry up. Plus an egg, sunny side up.

This is not healthy.

In fact, it is preposterously unhealthy. But I'm not fat and it's really quite delicious. If you aren't fat, give it a try.

I use OG rolled oats.All, I do boil some water(3/4-1 cup) add about a 1/8 tsp of salt.Stir in oats(1/3c-1/2c),bring back to boil.Then cover and take off heat,let set for 10min.You may need to reheat,then add what ever you like

You can also use rolled oats as a breading for fish.Sliced meatloaf done this way is also very good.

I've gotten in the habit of just cooking up some oatmeal for breakfast.
I do not think it is this Irish steel cut whatnot, nor is it instant, but it takes me all of a couple minuets to cook it in boiling water. I just add cinnamon to the oatmeal to give it some flavor.

I usually have one or two fruits
a bagel with cream cheese is nice too
scrambled eggs with tomato and spinach is tasty

if youre not used to having breakfast you'll find that at first you'll have to force yourself to eat even small portions because you won't have an appetite. After a few days you'll adjust though.

I was having a sweet potato w/ salt, fat and sugar (sometimes spices). Thought I'd change it up, I picked up some Raw rolled oats today and I'm going to have that.

My favorite breakfast is Apple Cheese Quiche. It's extremely yummy and simple to make. It's great either warm or cold, so you can make it the night before and slice a piece straight from the fridge when you wake up.

You can make a low-fat version if you use low-fat cheese, eliminate the egg yolks, use skim-milk, omit the butter, and skip the crust (pour the batter in a non-stick pie pan).

* 2 apples diced
* 1 partially baked 10" pie shell
* 3 eggs
* 1/2 c. cottage cheese
* 1 t. sugar
* dash salt
* 3 T. butter
* 1 c. grated sharp cheddar
* 1 1/2 c. milk
* 1/4 t. cinnamon

In a medium frying pan saute the apples in butter for 5 minutes. Place in the pie shell; top with cheddar cheese.

In a mixing bowl beat together the eggs, cottage cheese, and milk. Pour over the apples and cheese. Combine the sugar, cinnamon and salt; sprinkle over the top.

Bake in a 375 degree oven for 30-45 minutes, until the custard is firm.

Have a great breakfast!!!
