If we don't see pretty soon some serious input we will be forced to conclude that no one here gives a damn about this issue (despite the numerous lengthy complaints that we are taking too long to deliver our unilaterally-imposed, fascist, undemocratic, wall of silence, unfair rules) and we moderators will just write the forum rules ourselves when we get around to it.
The one rule you can count on not being changed is the no flaming rule. If y'all figure that's all we need, just say so. Here's your chance.
Phred
well the question of what is flaming is a subjective one to a thin skinned person simple disagreement can and often is considered a personal attack stating a fact that contradicts a statement made by a thin skinned person can and often is considered a personal attack just pointing out that a person has gotten lost in pretty words can and often is considered a personal attack why should every body else walk on eggs around such a person I also think that the devision is back wards a real or want to be a real mystic is tough someone studying mysticism is learning how not to suffer from pain emotional and or psychical a large part of that is becoming more aware of there suffering It's mostly new age spirituality that has gotten so far from what spiritual development is about that it produces thin skinned people from rhinoceroses

Was it necessary to bump a three year old thread for that?

If you expect an answer for your question, you'll have it in three years

I'd like to weigh in with my opinion here ...
I am not fond of the new change in direction of this forum. It seems like this forum is now for "debate and insults", like this is encouraged. Post an idea here? Oh my god, prepare to get ripped to shreds, and be called a complete fool too!! But it just makes the "attackers" look petty, get added to my block list, and scares off people looking for genuine discussion.
I remember when this place was just a fun place to bounce ideas back and forth. I think maybe putting less focus on "debate and argument" and more focus on "philosophy and spirituality" would be good.
my two cents
cheers

thats funny since you have posted about 6 times in the last 4 years. maybe we need a bitch & moan forum for people that want to complain about the conversations in the forum, but dont actually partake in any way, and therefor have absolutely no room to talk when they complain about how much a forum is ruined.

Maybe there is a reason why I (and many others) stopped posting here. Take a guess why.

well it would make sense to blame it on the split... if you actually stopped posting in '05.
but you stopped posting in late 2003.
but when I compare swami's PPD to your PPD, it looks like you stopped posting at the point where swami had the highest PPD.

Wow. this is exactly what I was talking about in the trolling thread except id be all for what you would call the bitching and moaning.
Kind of crazy how i made this kind of post (i didnt see this thread first) after being away for such a long time exactly when this reform thread was up.
take a look:

Any real philosophical debate in this forum has to break one of the rules, or at least piss someone off around here to establish its root.
The Tao Te Ching focuses on the duality of yin and yang, but the teaching itself is non-duality. In the same way, the ideal of egolessness is not achieved by making ego, or identity (personalism), a bannable offense, but by actually being 100 percent genuine. Subverting it to the politically correctness of bad humor, false compassion, or whatever just makes things worse.
I would be in favor of dropping some of the rules in this forum. Lately Ive found it to impossible to converse in this forum with these rules, because first I cant rise above my ego, but at the same time I cant play the politically correct ego game because i find it disgusting. In the clashing of egos, I find it best to be a man and say exactly what is on my mind, or nothing at all. And of course an ego battle, is 100 percent personal.
Ironically enough, I brought this up in a past debate, (not too skillfully) and the form of the debate perfectly demonstrated this, and I was forced to bow out.
Ive learned I cant obey the rules and be genuine at the same time, so ive stopped posting, except in regaurd to this particular issue. I think we need to observe and explore why people say things in the way they do more than their oftentimes meaningless rhetoric.
Years ago, Alan Watts conceived of "Wisdom in Insecurity" and thats what I can appeal toward.
Edit: o wait, this is like a two year old, practically extinct thread.
Thats even better.

This thread has been closed.
Reason: Alright, this topic was settled and buried two+ years ago.
The forum is packed with new posts, viewings are up often rivaling the Pub's numbers, and most everyone seems happy so let's leave the rules alone for now.
