Hello, first time identification post, sorry if it breaks any rules, I tried to follow as much as possible.
After looking all over the internet I cant clearly identify this one, probably not active but here it is anyway.
Note: these photos were taken a few days after picking them, I didnt have a camera when i originally found them, and after going back with a camera i found they had dried up and looked a bit different.
Found in a park next to a body of water in Sydney, Australia
To an inexperienced hunter like me, they look similar to Psilocybe Subaeriginosa or Psilocybe Australiana, but also similar to Inocybe species..
Habitat: New South Wales, Sydney south-western suburbs, close to water, some found in grass and some found in wood chips and leaf matter amonsgt eucalypt and other australian native trees.
Gill Characteristics: Light tan colour, thin gills, approximately 2mm apart
Stem Characteristics: Slightly darker than gills, 2-3mm in diameter, 2-5 cm long, slightly soft?
Cap Characteristics: Light brown to tan colour, darker in centre, Shaped like a sombrero, 2-4 cm wide, smooth, some slightly frayed at edges
Spore Print Colour: Creamy white
Bruising: no noticeable changes when bruised
Scent: The same as regular supermarket mushrooms, perhaps a slightly flowery aftersmell..?
If I've left any important details out please let me know as I'd like to learn how to identify mushrooms better.

Hey mate, about to have dinner so can't look up a book for you, but the white print immediately means it's not subaeruginosa, its spore print is dark purpley brown or dark purpley black.
Get out there in winter and have a look though you'll have better luck,.

Nice job on the ID request, thanks a ton for reading the rules! Makes things a hell of a lot easier.
Next time make sure to take a photo of the underside- the gills and stem.
I'm thinking something like Marasmius, but it's hard to tell due to how dry they are, and not seeing the underside.

Thanks for the quick replies and friendly welcome!
After a quick google of Marasmius, they're starting to look like Marasmius oreades, which are apparently edible, delicious and sweet. After having a look at the dried ones again, they do appear to have a sweet hazelnut smell. I think i'd be too afraid to eat them or cook with them though.

Actually, Marasmius has a white spore print. I think your mushroom is most likely an Agrocybe, Agrocybe praecox most likely.

Xmush, the spore print looks white in the photo and he describes it as "creamy white"....??
Agrocybe has brown spores, so it can't be that.
uplategames, M. oreades was my thought too, but I didn't want to get too specific without seeing the underside, since the gills are pretty distinctive in that species.
Still, don't eat anything this early on until you've gotten a 100% accurate identity from the boards, and you feel comfortable indulging.
They are one of my very favourite edibles, so be sure and get really awesome fresh photos next time so maybe you can try them out!
Nice job on narrowing it down to species, you read my mind.

curecat, they are one of your favorites? They are everywhere where I live because they withstand dryness well. For some reason I have never tried them. What are they like? They probably don't have much taste, just good texture? I'm definitely gonna try them this summer!!!

Marasmius oreades tastes good due to a unique blend of trehalose and hydrogen cyanide, giving it a unique sweet almond flavor that is difficult to reproduce.

The flavour is awesome. Sauteed up with some olive oil, butter, onion, garlic, salt and pepper, the texture and flavour is kinda like sausage!

so, the trehalose sounds great, it's an antioxidant, and it's what helps the mushrooms rehydrate when moisture comes. The HCN is a little bit sketchy though. Yeah, it adds the almondy flavor, but it's also a poison. I take it you wouldn't want to eat too many of them, or eat them regularly over a long period of time?
Everyone should read the article on trehalose though, very interesting. Thanks Alan.

ehh, I thought it looked like a brown spore print. maybe my eyes are failing. it doesn't look brown to anyone else? i'm going to bed

Are you sure you're not looking at the mushroom cap itself? Maybe you have your contrast set so low the white on white print isn't showing on your screen
