Wild Grows From MS vs. Domesticated Grows From MS
    #7959997 - 01/31/08 12:23 PM (7 months, 2 days ago)

I don't really have that much knowledge about the sciences behind phenos or strains or substrains. And most of my knowledge is based on what works for me. But I am a bit curious about something.

My absolute best grow in terms of flush weight was with the EQ strain. I grew EQ on several different types of substrates, and though the characteristics varied from one substrate to the next, the over all performance was outstanding.

EQ on Brf/verm cakes put out dozens of small fruites on each cake with multiple flushes. The same EQ print inoculated several jars of WBS which colonized well, and even the G2G transers were successful. These were later spawned to hpoo/coir and verm/coir with amazing flushes and great sized fruits. Actually most were about this size.

Hell, even the spent casings that were tossed out under the shrubs still fruit on occasion even after a few years...

Fast forward a bit to working with the Texas strain. Texas on straw went well. Fruits were small, but potencey was amazing.

The wild strain that I am working with now, is what's referred to as 'aria51'. It was a find by a member of the forum. He found it on a wildlife refuge I believe. Anyway, I was able to experience some of the fruits from a grow that was started by a spore print of one of these guys. It was unlike any shroom experience ever. I know that the varying effects from one strain to the next is debateable, but I felt that it was enough of a difference in my mind to seek out a good flush of these guys.....

So, here we are now, Working on my second flush from 12 brf cakes. I have already harvested one flush and they are all very small, shrooms. They only seem to fruit from one area of the cake they choose. (Ignore the RH Reading, I had the lid off for a spell)

They colonize slower than any strain I have ever tried and have very odd looking mycelium.

I inoculated WBS on 12/5/07 and my trays are just now starting to pin. Their growth on both WBS and BRF seems to happen in stages. Fast agresssive growth for a couple of days followed by cessation, then later more growth.

I guess what I'm asking is can odd characteristics like this be expected with any wild MS inoculation, or does it happen with all MS innoculations and I'm only lucky enough to experience great results on all my previous grows?

no it happened to me. I collected a wild texas cube and it grew so fast. It caught up and beat a casing that i had cased before it. It was so aggressive. Because its from the wild? Awesome pin sets that were better compared to similar grows of domesticated strains. I think Wild Grows are the way to go.
