The longest you have kept a colony going?

I was pondering this thought the other day. I've heard the phrase "Mycelium gets weak" and was curious how accurate this is.
Providing a mycelium colony, say p.cubensis, is kept viable by continuously adding more nutrients or substrate, even if it involves breaking up a colonized substrate to mix with more fresh substrate, will the mycelium colony continue to thrive?
Has anyone attempted this ?
I have to an extent several years ago. I took a pf tek cake that had flushed twice, and crumbled and added to coir, after the tray of crumbled cakes flushed twice, I added it to the compost pile which continues to flush at random even after a couple of years.
Just curious if anyone has experimented with this.

i have seen outdoor beds of sra live for 15+ years. Fresh wood chips are added every year and it is tilled up and they just keep growing. My buddy has it in his garden and he does not have to use any fertilizer.

Heat drying cubes is okay and recommended
Sunflower seeds do not cause contams
You should directly mist your cakes

Lately once my hpoo casings stop flushing I've been taking the biggest mushroom. Ripping it up mixing with fresh aged hpoo and mixing in with old myc/hpoo. The flushes are great. I don't know if you would consider this the same colony though.....
