Do shrooms cause a flood of serotonin?

Because if that's so, it would explain why my DXM trip last night was dumbed down and this frightens me for tonight's Acid trip or lack of one if i'm totally depleted of serotonin. I'm just searching around drug sites now and found this:
"The release of serotonin, however, also causes serotonin receptors in the brain to down-regulate, which basically means turn themselves off for a while. The up-and-down regulation of receptors is one of the primary ways the brain tries to achieve homeostasis, or balance. These receptors work in conjunction with the amount of serotonin around and are just as important in the regulation of mood as serotonin itself (see our Ecstasy Slide Show for details). In trying to maintain a balanced mood, these receptors respond to the amount of serotonin around by turning themselves on and off (up-regulation and down-regulation). When they are flooded with serotonin as a result of taking Ecstasy, many of them down-regulate."
So if my receptors have down regulated as a result of shrooms (from wednesday), the tolerance is most definitely partly due to this. DXM releases serotonin and I took a strong dose last night but somehow it didn't affect like it does usually. I could almost sense a lingering shroom feeling which made me suspect a connection. Today I planned on tripping for the first time on acid but I wonder if it will even be worth it? I only have one hit anyways and about 2g of shrooms left which I am considering taking (but again, will it just be a waste?)
I understand that the above reference might have nothing to do with my scenario but many drugs affect serotonin and it doesnt matter if its E or whathaveyou the same result described should happen. right? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

so you did shrooms, DXM, and now you wanna do acid 3 days in a row? maybe you should take a day off and reflect on your trips. Do the acid in a day or two.

theres not much to reflect on. the shrooms were less than intense along with my trip last night. i think i've pinpointed that to the fact that i've taken vyvanse both mornings. the uppers are killing the psychedelic effects. i didn't take it today so hopefully the acid should work.
and on a side note. i'm not asking you to judge what i'm doing. I simply want feedback on the serotonin query.

When you take mushrooms or lsd over and over tolerance builds up

i was not judging what you do. i was saying you should take a break so that your body can get ready for the acid trip. by all means trip all you want...that's what i'll be doing once my first shrooms have been harvested.

no. it dosent in face its blocking seretonin from being resepted to your synapsis
however there are mushrooms that are known to contain seretonin. thats exotic tho

Yeah, they don't cause a flood of serotonin.
Also realize that acid and mushrooms are cross tolerant to an extent, so taking acid today would probably be a diminished trip...Just wait man.

The first thing to understand is that tolerance to hallucinogens such as psilocybin or LSD builds very rapidly (it starts becoming a factor within hours). Second is that this tolerance takes roughly one week to subside, so if you have to dose more often than that you're going to need a larger dose to achieve the same effects. Third is cross-tolerance between drugs with similar actions, i.e. psilocybin and LSD.

Not exactly. Some drugs you can roughly group together because they work in a similar enough fashion on the brain, but it gets much more complicated than simply putting things in terms of whether or not they affect the same neurotransmitter (such as serotonin). For example, both LSD and MDMA are thought to work primarily via serotonin, but the down-regulation of serotonin receptors works differently between the two. This is where we start talking about things like receptor "agonists" and "antagonists", the synapse (the gap between neurons/nerve cells/brain cells), neurotransmitter sub-types (there is more than one kind of serotonin), effects on multiple neurotransmitter systems at the same time, different regions of the brain, and so on and so forth. (Part of the problem is also that we still don't have a very complete understanding of how these kinds of drugs work.) Regarding the drugs you mentioned--mushrooms, acid, E, and DXM -- mushrooms and LSD are (probably) the most similar in that they are 5-HT2(serotonin subtype) agonists (agonists enhance or excite neurotransmission; antagonists inhibit it). MDMA works not only as a mixed serotonin agonist/antagonist* (meaning it not only squirts more serotonin into the synapse but keeps it there, which causes major effects) -- but also affects the neurotransmitter dopamine. DXM is different in that (like PCP and ketamine) it seems to exert its primary effects on a neurotransmitter system known as NMDA. The way all of these drugs work is a lot more complicated than what I've just written, but that's sort of the point.

i believe land crab is right 4hodmt is a seretonin anogist meaning it acts on the seretonin receptors an antagonist is what you described such as mdma but bening overwellmed the 5ht recepters might shut themselves off for a while. ive never had a problem crashing off of shrooms or acid like i do off of coke this is probably a sign that that doesnt happen.

no what are you talking about it doesnt block seretonin it acts as seretonin also it doesnt matter if something you eat contians seretonin it cannot break through the blood brian barrier.

sorry to be a know it all but an anagist mimics the effects of a neurotransmitter does not antagonize it thus creating more that is an antagonist 4-ho-dmt or psilicin is an anogist meaning it acts as seretonin on the seretonin recepters.

Technically, most hallucinogens are partial agonists at 5-HT2 receptors, although it depends on the second messenger system that you are using to classify the response.

the psychedelic idea is to get excess serotonin in the synapses so that once the synapse is triggerred by a primary signal, the cells keep firing longer, and the events seem to fade more slowly.
this adjustment is an anomoly to the system so it compensates and we get brought down until the pools are more normal and we can tweak it again - 3 days minumum between for decent effects and more for full effects.
all the psychedelics engage this 5ht/serotonin system. 5ht is serotonin. how they do it is not clear, whether by mimickry, or somehow affecting a hormonal/neurotransmission command chain.

id say dont trip tonight, youll prbly trip, but not nearly as much as you would if you waited 48 hours for your brain to recover.
