How much does a martha cost to start up?
    #7792412 - 12/23/07 02:54 PM (5 years, 5 months ago)

From what i've read I need two humidifiers one inside and one out.
Is this true?

What is the best brand of humidifier to get for a martha?

save yourself some money, some work by going MONOtub. Have you checked out the mono tub method?

Out the door, the martha setup is around $200 for all supplies. With this, you get a non automated setup that must be monitored daily.

With monotub, there is a $5 investment in a tub; with this you get 100% automated.

I have a auto setup right now with a monotub and a 30gal FC.
What is the differences between a auto and non-auto martha?

no martha is automated because the humidifiers have to be refilled every other day or so.

When i say automated, I mean I can get up and leave for a week and not have to worry about shit.

I would suggest the Ebay mini-greenhouse. It sells for under $20 and with a few minor mods, it can be run for several days on just a coolmist inside on the bottom shelf (climate depending). A timer is useful for dialing in the right RH and avoiding unnecessary condensation. If one needs to go longer without refilling there are coolmist mods that can increase the size of the reservoir.

The total cost w/ timer and coolmist humidifier would be around $50.

If you’re going to put a coolmist inside of the greenhouse you just did away with the advantage a coolmist provides. You might as well use an ultrasonic humidifier and run it for weeks on a single fill, with no modifications at all.

Could you elaborate?

I just found a green house on ebay but the same one is listed 5+ time an hour apart, is this a scam?

How do I keep the RH up if the bottom is open?

It’s not a scam. It’s a small business that imports them from china and that is just how they chose to list them.

The same dude has been doing it forever, if he has good feedback its all good.

Cool mists are nice because they offer constant FAE. Unfortunately a handful of members have discovered that when you place the coolmist outside of the greenhouse, the piping that is used to get the humidity into the chamber causes a faire enough amount of back pressure to burn out the motor.

An easy solution, is to simply place the cool mist inside of the chamber, no back pressure, and the motor stays happy.

However you just lost all of your FAE because the coolmist is recirculation the same air inside of the greenhouse. Thus forcing you to find alternate means for providing FAE.

You would have to do the same thing with an ultrasonic, the only difference is, an ultrasonic on a timer can last weeks on a single tank of water, while a coolmist lasts about 24hoours unless you modify the tank, and was already said, even when modifying the tank, it still won’t last but a few days.

EDIT:

BTW,
If you’re only planning on growing cubes. TRUST ME!! don’t build a greenhouse. They can be a pain in the ass to get running properly, they can leak from the bottom, and there is a lot of maintenance

For cubes, you best stick to mono or double tubs, your life will be easier, and you will have a lot more money in your pocket at the end of the day. And as has already been said, they automate them selves naturally.

Not quite true...the coolmist is placed on the bottom shelf with the air intake OUTSIDE the GH, thus sucking in outside air. I add a few strategically placed slits in the GH plastic, just to make sure I have plenty of FAE.

After years of work in the hobby I have found this method to be my favorite because of its simplicity and effectiveness. YMMV.

Actually, my v420 needs to be filled every 3-4 days when on the timer.

I tape a large heavy duty trash bag to the plastic of the greenhouse to catch the water that condenses on the sides, but the point is to have the door flap rolled up enough to expose the intake for the humidifier.
