I have read the rules about ID Requesting this was my first time hunting so bare with me. Sorry if any parts are ommited from my request.
I was hunting with a freind deep in GGP in San Fran and we came up with this interesting find. I beleive they were to young to take a good spore print. Maybe I'm wrong. I think they are PS.Friscosa. It was a very big find. They looked really young so I only picked a few for ID purposes and left the rest to mature. I just hope they will remain there until I go back.
The stems are whiteand the caps are a lightish brown. The pics seemed to come out OK. I apologise for the scant info but I'm just learning. any info would help also How similat to Cyan's are these if they are friscosa. Would I take the same dose amount?

Those are not cyans/friscosas. They're probably Psathyrella - don't eat them. Next time, go deeper.

3 years ago I saw a few people picking those and putting them in bags. I asked what were they looking for and what did they have. They said they didnt know what they had and made up some shit about what they were looking for. I told them that those were not active and not cyans. They sort of looked at me like I was trying to poach their find, weird? I mentioned to them that there would not be so many of them out in the open like that if they were cyans. Someone else would have picked them by now. They said that they still were going to take them and have them Id'ed. So i reached in my pocket and pulled out a real cyan for them them. The two look nothing alike. I could tell that they were bummed.
Anyways, those are very. very common. They grow by the hundreds. Not even close to cyans. The cyans/fibs will be about 2 inches tall. Not 6+ unless you are very lucky

Damb that sucks. I found A huge patch with a couple bright red looking mushrooms also. I thought it was to good to be true. I read the info on Wikepedia on Psathyrella and they do look similar. At least they are not poisonous. I didn't eat any of them of course but It's good to know. I'm heading back on Friday. It's suppose to rain all week out here until friday so Hopefully that will give time for lots more to fruit.

The mushrooms you posted are in Psathyrella for sure.

The bright red mushrooms are Stropharia aurantiaca. They are the best indicator species for Psilocybe cyanescens.
If you look more, you will find them.
Once you find a hundred patches of Stropharia aurantiaca, you will find a patch of Psilocybe cyanescens.
Especially with the way the rain has been lately. But we don't talk about that.

round up will not hurt you after a few days.
farmers use the shit out of it. You ever hear of "round up ready" vegies? They are able to remove the gene that round up attacks in crops soy, corn, beans and this way they can spray the crops with round up to kil the weeds and it will not harm the plants. Round up breaks down after a few days and all that is left is carbon.
A bigger concern is the reclaimed grey water that they use in areas to water. This will sometimes have hepetitus in it. Far worse then round up. This is why I will not eat anything found in the park. Also, the piles of shit that are everywhere in the park are worse.

AR -- make sure you are super duper extraordinarily careful with syringes and needles, it would suck if you got hepatitis from an accidental needle stick!

I looked up the Stropharia aurantiaca and that is deffinatly what the red ones were. They looked really out of place. I'm gonna check that area out again later this week. I'm thinking about also going further up towards the water. I figure to close to Haight st. is probably way over picked. I'd like to go deep into the area that are rarely disturbed.
I wanna check out the east bay also. I'm gonna look into any good wooded areas in Oakland soon. How long to Cyans grow into the season? I would think due to heavy rains in the early spring late winter would bring some stuff up also.

They aren't really that out of place, they just happen to be red.

I find equal numbers of patches at both ends of the park.

Yes, it is. Every place that has ever fruited a Psilocybe has white wood chips laying everywhere. People rip them out of the ground and leave the colonized wood chips right on top where they dry out and stay for a long time. Its better in a way because you can easily spot the patches that are not fruiting at the moment.
A smart person would collect all these wood chips and throw them at piles of new chips.

Its a huge park.
There are some amazing untouched spots in really obvious places as well.

i used to fantasize about launching grain spawn cakes from potatto cannons at the chip piles in the yards of pulp mills in humboldt area from a moving vehicle on the hightway. yes, i'm a strange person. i had a mental picture of colonized kernels plastered to the sides of these enormous heaps.

most of the chips at the mills are used to make plywood.
You should do what i do. I carry zip locks full of grain spawn and bury it in spots. It has a very high success rate

i do do that, with chip spawn actualy.
i just noticed years ago that some of those piles sat around for a long time.

Definatly psathyrellas, get a print out of a few good Cyan ID pics and carry it when you go hunting, they look very different.
