I don't want to say too much as this is an ongoing investigation. I am a sophomore at UT for seven more days before moving to santa cruz for reasons such as this arrest. I hung out with both of these guys on a regular basis last year in the dorms, and this year I talked to Chalmers a few times. I will agree with the rest of you that getting caught with the bud was a very stupid situation, however I am positive that Chalmers knows the law better than to agree to a search of his room. At the point his room was searched he was in police custody and they had reasonable cause (the half ounce is a felony possession here). This is just a sad story about another kid being fucked by the long dick of the law. The officers obviously know nothing about dmt as it is nothing like acid. It is not the "business man's trip". Dmt is the most potent psychedelic known to man. This just shows that drug laws cannot be fair until the real effects and meaning of each drug is known. this is a sad story and just goes to show that anyone could end up in prison. Chalmers is one of the nicest, friendliest people you could ever meet and it makes me very sad that the next time I'll get to see my buddy won't be for a long time and I'll be in California.

DMT isn't actually very potent at all. A full dose is around 40-60mg. many psychedelics have lower doses than that by far.

this isn't entirely true. The reason isn't because the schools own the dorms. They try to bridge the line between someone who lives there and someone who is only staying there as convieniant.
You generally have more rights in a hotel room than a dorm room, war on drugs exception.

Everyone's gotta sign something before they get into the dorms. Everyone's just gotta take a look at what they're signing.
I'd IMAGINE, though, that 99% of the time the school can't search something in your room if is some sort of container you own with your OWN lock (like a small chest or safe) on it unless there's some sort of probably cause.
