I say it's fine. I started dating my 19 year old boyfriend when I was technically still 16 (though very close to 17, he was 2.5 years older than me) Maturity wise, girls tend to mature faster than boys, so a 16 year old girl would be on par with a 18 or 19 year old boy. I made the mistake of dating an 18 year old boy when I was 21 (he was a little over 2 years younger than me). This boy had a predilection for 15 year old girls (his sister, for example), as they were more on his maturity level. I would say wait until you're in your 20s before you date someone your age- by that time you're likely to be on the same wavelength maturity wise.

I think that statement is completely false. I was 19 going on 20, dating the 16 y/o love of my life. We hit it off with a BANG...literally  Then 3 months later she broke up with me. Then went back out with me. Then broke up with me again, then a year later hooked back up with me.
To the OP: if you want something long term, 16 y/o girls are not mature enough for commitment, despite how badly you want it. They still have high school to finish, college possibly, there's no way they're sticking with one person through all of that. Not to rain on your parade but prepare for a crash and burn. Keep your heart open, but your guard up.
