STAL searches don't bring up much helpful information. knowing that it stands for "Sir Tokes A Lot" I was able to find the answer instantly. thank you for reminding me about the search option! prick

it started back in the day in OTD to make fun of a member by the name of Sir Tokes-A-Lot.
it became a common thing to include a poll option with the name "I am Sir TokesALot", first starting in poll questions that allowed you to make fun of STAL by selecting his option.
it was then shortened into "STAL" over time and has become a tradition in OTD and can be found in a lot of forum wide polls.

probably. sounds right to me. i just know it became widespread and we'd do it in OTD to make fun of sir tokes.
i thought it was made up to make fun of him, but that sounds much more accurate.
