shiitake bag tek .. is there such a thing .. can I spawn using rye to alder pieces and sawdust supplemented with bran. whats the sterilization time for something like that.. should I use gypsum and CC? can I fruit in the bag or should I slit it .. or remove the hole thing. I know It needs a cold shock . I am going to try to take a clone from my shiitake oak log .. would this be a good strain to use or would I be better off getting a sterile culture or dowels? thanks

I'm pretty sure you already have my DVD. The woodchip/sawdust recipe in there is perfect for shiitake. I use one quart of rye spawn for each 5 lb block. When fully colonized, let sit for a week and then cold shock in the bag for another week. Remove from the bag, soak 24 hours, and place in fruiting conditions. Good luck. RR

Yes. Get a good, clean clone and inoculate grains. Use the colonized grains to inoculate the sterilized dowel rods. I usually grow the dowel rods out in quart jars, but filter patch bags work well too. RR
