it would be better, for us witnessing the change, however if i had to compare being born into an everyone smokes world as i have been born into an "almost" everyone drinks world i see no advantage to one over the other, so basically
the "betterness" will only be observed by those who see the change. those born into it are still brought into a world with only one less problem. out of the infinite problems that exist thats not much of an improvement.

if everyone smoked weed i would become a ganja farmer. and grow massive ammounts of ganja in a field, then i would hire migrant workers to prune the crop while in the soil and i would have tourists come pick buds, just like apples at an apple orchard, then seel that bud at a reasonable price plus a certain ammount for admission to my farm and the chance to walk through miles of marijuana.

Productivity wouldnt just fall a little, it would plummit and their would be mass starvation followed by a period of dark ages. Well, thats only if everyone smoked all day every day, and that certainly wouldnt happen. If some people just smoked a few times a year then their productivity would subsidize our lack of productivity.

It could go either way, or do nothing at all. All it would really do is change the way people come up with their ideas. Smoking pot wouldn't change people's beliefs, so we'd still have stupid corporate decisions, only they'd probably be more well thought-out and harder to compromise through some clever means. It's a double-edged sword.
