cool man thanks so much for posting this and getting my ass inspired.
this is the type of shit that makes me want to jump up and down and then :bongload: lol
I know what you mean about the flat grafting too.
I only had so many survivors with that method.
thats why I had Torch seedlings so old with plenty of Pereskiopsis kicking around lol.
If the grafting was that easy I would have grafted them at 2 weeks old every time.
also when I was doing the first grafts with this method I went in so far when pushing them on and then I took it out so the juices and air bubbles could come out so the graft was tighter when it went back in

Oookla awesome tek! Out of curiousity how old are those baby torch's?

Cpw if octavius works out I will worship you that will be fucking awesome! I'm thinking that maybe the torch would outgrow all the pereskiopsis and rip out the grafts tho...

Bravo to OOKLA and cpw1971!

A very interesting and unique project! You have my full attention on the "Frankencactus" i wonder first of all if they will bind and what will come out of the project!

Since i see people here have a thing for experimenting ,i will propose a procedure i proposed in another forum but i never saw its fruits,so to speak. In a Lophophora seedling-pereskiopsis graft one of course has to align the vascular bundles of the two plants. Many people have actually reported that you dont have 100% vascular bundle overlap and many times the Lophophora on top seems to be attached only in one point with the pereskiopsis rootstock. So here is a proposition : One could try to make a Lophophora (or any other cactus seedling) feed simutaneously off 3 different pereskiopsis! I envisage this to be able by bringing the 3 pereskiopsis tops to be cut together in a bundleand then cut in such a way (in the inner side, where they touch eachother) that the cut "platform " size they make on the top can accomodate a seedling, which will bind and feed of all three of them at the same time. In the light of the current project, one with sufficient skill could ,instead of a platform cut the three tips so when together they form the "pencil tip" mentioned originally ,which would accomodated the "hollowed" seedling.

Without visual representation i do not know if what i mean has been carried across,if anoyne has questions on what i am proposing as an idea, ask right away.

I figured that was exactly the point of the frankencactus...

sounds to me like the method Kadakuda tried and it din't work.

what I would do is plug the small Loph seedling with the pencil method and let that get big...... once big enough cut it off and let it root and plant it...... then do the Octavius method on it
but let just see how well Octavius does first
it is looking good so far as of last night. no shrinkage or shriveling so far.

psiloman: why would u need more than one pereskiopsis for a loph seedling... they grow like fuck with a single root stock anyway...

cpw: one thing id say about your "octavius" method, is that u cant ever be sure if all of the stock plants are actually doing anything... IF all 4 do achieve vascular contact then id expect it to be too much for the scion to handle and it might split...
and if there are aeroles on the part of the stock that is inside the scion, they could easily pup and grow into the scion, so i hope u shaved all of them off

anyway i know your just playing around with this, so these are merely observations

yep they are shaved off
and yeah who knows even if it does survive through this if it is working or not.
well I thought of that too and I have 3 twin Terscheckiis of the same size. If Octavius outgrows them it is working.
I am hoping it doesnt split it as well.
now if it does work I will keep adding grafts from time to time as it gets taller
another thing I thought of was if it decides to not use the roots of the Terscheckii anymore and they rot and start to rot the bottom of the cactus. hmmmmmm
time will tell

I got an idea....
once already grafted cacti become so big on pereskiopsis instead of cutting them off and rooting them why not just plug in more pereskiopsis???????
:bongload:
and I just happen to have some of those grafts for testing as well
