Case, Birth???
    #7443941 - 09/23/07 11:20 AM (4 years, 8 months ago)

So i have 9 jars, i started with 12 and 3 got contaminated, out of the 9 jars i have i have 3 sets of 2 jars that are the same strain (B+,TC and CAM)... while the other 3 are all different strands(OI,PB,EQ)...

With the sperate strands and me only having one jar of each would i be better of casing them in a small container to increase substrate depth, or should i thin it out for more surface area? or should i simply birth these 3 cakes?

I know deeper substrate means bigger fruits, but if i have surface area will i get more littler fruits, or will i get the most fruits by birthing??

Break those cakes up (a cheese grater works nicely) and use them to spawn a bulk substrate, such as coir or horse crap.

I have a 4lb rye bag and a 4 lb wbs bag im going to spawn later, my hpoo and straw wont be ready for a while and these cakes are almost ready. So what do you suggest i do? Will i get more fruits if i just birth it (PF tek) Or i have 2 options for my casing try, one is shallower and longer, the other is deeper and shorter?? What work best

Hmm, usually I'd say go for the bulk grow, but with so many different strains in one box that sounds iffy. Maybe PF Tek those individual cakes, but save 2 of the same strain (the healthiest looking ones) to crumble into a bulk tek.

Maybe the shallower, flatter one is better if you have the space? Mostly I'd use increased surface area to help get a big flush, rather than to grow the right size of fruits. Hope that helps!

PS I didn't know that you could use coir as a substrate. I thought it was just used for casing mix.

So i should crumble ans case my single jars? I was going to crumble and case my 3 sets of jars because thats a decent amount of colonized substrate, i was basically wondering what the best thing to with single jars was for the most fruits.... spawning the 3 single jars isnt possible right now so im limited to casing them in a bigger or smaller tray or birthing them.... I dont know what you meant by using coir as a substrate?? i have brf jars... Casing the 3 sets with 50 50 peat verm..

What im trying to figure out is what to do with my single jars....

any suggestions about the size of tray if i case these single jars? I mean they are both small but the bigger one will result in a thinner substrate layer and the smaller will result in a thicker substrate layer...... which will produce more fruits?

And if birthing will produce more let me know!

The top left and the lower casing were done with 50/50 tek 1 HALF PINT CAKE EACH--.5 layer on bottom--.5 layer on top using hyphaes pinning strategy-- crumbled PF cakes..the top right is done with 2 pf cakes
about 3/4" casing layers..pans are approx 8x4" I was extremely happy with the results (much better the just strait cake fruiting

they werent monster size but did a lot better than going the cakes route

and BTW the BYE I got 2 Great flushes form both with a dunk after each flush

GO FOR IT
