I always wondered if people in a class like that had their ideas stolen by the professor if one of the ideas was really good.

A cell phone that doubles as a universal remote control/garage door opener/etc.
It could pose numerous problems, and people would always be battling for control of the TV...but you KNOW that would be badass.
I was actually, seriously going to do this, and get my dad, an electronic whiz to help me make a proto-type....but then I discovered other companies are already in the process and have it patented and shit. *sigh*

I don't know about an expandable house- but what about a modular house?
Something like Lego bricks, only bigger. You'd buy a kit and build the house the way you wanted it to look. Lightweight, portable, weather-resistant, infinitely modular.
