27th Telluride Mushroom Festival Telluride, Colorado - August 23-26 2007
Three days packed with information and events celebrating mushrooms in all their many forms. Contact Kris Holstrom at 970-708-0289 or kholstrom@gmail.com for more information.
Exploring the Entire World of Fungi
The Telluride Mushroom Festival is designed for persons interested in expanding their knowledge of edible, medicinal, poisonous and psychoactive mushrooms. Cultivation of gourmet mushrooms and using fungi for mycorestoration will also be discussed in detail.
The festival is held in Telluride, nestled in the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado. The forests in the Telluride area generally produce a wide variety of wild mushrooms, including choice edible species, like Chanterelles and Porcini.
Daily forays will be held in the surrounding mountains to collect local fungal species and study their field characteristics.
The festival also includes mushroom tastings, cooking demonstrations and new this year, kid’s workshops. Methods of sustainable harvesting and preservation will also be discussed. You’ll be entertained with mushroom movies, music, poetry, plays and the famous mushroom parade-complete with dancing mushrooms and other costumed elements of the mycological world.
The late summer climate in the Colorado high country is lovely, with warm, sunny days and cool nights, with the occasional afternoon rain showers. So, rain gear and warm clothing is required.
