Colonel bans use of 'magic mint' herb August 20, 2007 - sltrib.com
HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah - A legal herb called salvia divinorum that is sometimes ingested or inhaled has been banned at Hill Air Force Base.
Col. Scott Chambers, installation commander, issued the order earlier this month, banning its use among civilian employees, contractors, military dependents and all other ''guests'' to the base. Possession and use by members of the military was banned in January.
Chambers said salvia use on the base is not a problem, but the ban is an effort to keep it from becoming one.
The Drug Enforcement Administration isn't quite sure what to do about salvia divinorum, which is sometimes called ''magic mint.''
''It's something we have under analysis right now to see whether it can or should be controlled,'' said Rogene Waite, spokeswoman at the DEA headquarters.
Waite said salvia divinorum abuse and its effects, including medicinal ones, are being researched. The dried leaves, ingested or inhaled, can cause hallucinations.
''I want to emphasize, just because something isn't illegal doesn't mean that it isn't dangerous,'' she said. ''And people should be extremely careful about what they experiment with and put into their bodies.''
There are hundreds of types of salvia, including three - azurea, nemorosa and officinalis - common to gardens in Utah. Many salvia plants produce a stalk of purple or violet flowers.
''None of these are hallucinogenic, to my knowledge,'' said Heidi Kratsch, a Utah State University professor who specializes in ornamental horticulture.
If anyone tried to smoke one of the three common Utah varieties, it would likely cause serious lung irritation and provide no kind of high, she said.
Some salvia plants are native to Utah, grow in the wild and are drought-tolerant.
At Hill Air Force Base, use or possession of salvia divinorum could result in disciplinary action, including being banned from the base, Chambers wrote.
''Such use could also seriously undermine our mission and negatively impact the morale and discipline of the installation and national security,'' he wrote.

You're thinking of PCP.

He may in fact, be a literal bum, only able to make himself known to us here by occasionally stopping into dark internet cafes to make a few quick, frantic posts before the owners force him to leave because of the stench of rotting vegetables and desperation wafting forth from his pores.

yes there is only one plant of the species that makes the hallucinogen salvorin-a. Blacking out is uncommon with the drug. Hmm. Does anyone know if the drug is able to be drug tested for? If so what is the detection period. I would think it would be a small window much like psilocybin and lsd.

I have to agree with this. Something else though, that the DEA spokeswoman should have added is something like this :
"Other examples for ppl to be aware of that are legal but nontheless hazardous for you health are Alcohol,Pharmaceuticals,Cigarretes(mind the emphasis on cigarretes and not Tobacco.),TV,gambling,Sex,food,drink,candy,coffee,and,the,list,goes,on,forever.
Even though we do care about the health of the people we would be grateful if they still indulge in all of the above drugs, legal and illegal, bust legal mostly, because if the big corps that produce them dont get paid,we dont get paid. "
-------------------- I have no idea what I am talking about but I do know I say things you don't understand and if you do understand what I am saying then you are wrong.

ahh I speak of the 40x Extract. Torch Lighter, Bong, Loss Of Reality
sounds like a salvia day to me.
many people I have talked to about it, including myself, have "blacked out" in a manor of speaking. You come down, and you think you did some crazyshit, I thought I jumped up ran from one side of the room to the other franticly screaming and waving my arms in panic. I was told i never left the chair...

blacking out is when you have no memory of what happened. You have a memory of what happened just not of what really happened. You still remembered the hallucinations however.

salvia is going to get banned.... unless marijuana is legalized...... over the past year it seems that the dea has become increasingly concerned to let people know the "truth" of salvia
this is alittle off topic.. but i just got some salvia... ten times extract with a jet lighter and a good pipe... but no visuals. Or do i need a stronger extract? If so... the strongest extract i can get is twenty from my local head shop....
