INCUBATION CHAMBER TO FRUITING CHAMBER conversion tek
    #7281980 - 08/10/07 03:15 PM (4 years, 9 months ago)

Ok, just got through with this crazy idea that I've pieced together from the many many  ideas I've gotten from members here.  The last time I did this I was criticized for my lack of instructions with my home made magnetic stirrer.  This time I'll put some extra effort and explain the process step by step with pictures.  Lots of pictures!

Ok, first of all the entire Tek is relevant to whatever size fruiting chamber you have started off with. In my case the fruiting chamber is a 30 gal sterlite tub.  I went back to Wal-mart and told them that I forgot to take the lid for my tub when I bought it.  I took my receipt with me and they gave me no hassles on getting the "free" lid.  (PS. If one of you guys works at Wal-Mart, DON'T TELL!!!).

HERE IS THE LID.

Next, I went back and bought another tub, (this time a clear tub to let light in from above.)  I forget the size of the second tub.

HERE IS THE SECOND TUB.

The deciding factor was, "How well does it fit on the incubation tub lid?"  Remember, I went and got a second lid that fit the incubation tub.  (THAT IS IMPORTANT)

THIS IS HOW IT FITS!

Next, I break out the drill and dremel.  I buy a 12 pack of nuts and bolts. and start drilling.  It's a perfect fit, and it's firmly secured!

THIS IS HOW IT LOOKS WITH THE BOLTS SECURED.  4 BOLTS ON BOTH SIDES LENGTH WISE AND 2 BOLTS ON BOTH SIDES WIDTH WISE.

Next I have to cut those long ass bolts down to size and grind them down smooth against the bolts.

Thats me cutting bolts then grinding them.

Next its time to cut out the plastic barrier which is separating the top lid from the rest of the world.  I used a jigsaw to go along the obvious seam of the plastic lid.

THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NOW THAT IT HAS BEEN CUT OUT!

Next, I cut out a port hole on one of the sides.  This is where I attach a PVC pipe.  This is the end that I will eventually connect a hose.

THIS IS WHAT THE "HOSE CONNECTION" LOOKS LIKE!

Next, I cut out an "exhaust port" on the opposite end of the tub.  I used a spare HEPA filter just to make it kind of fancy.  I'm sure you could use a number of things.

THIS IS WHAT THE EXHAUST PORT LOOKS LIKE!

Next, I installed the Hygrometer and the Thermometer.  I drilled from above so that I could zip tie the extra length and adjust the height of the sensors.

THESE ARE THE SENSORS INSTALLED AND A QUICK LOOK AT SENSOR LENGTH.

That's it for part one!  You now have the "Environmental Control Hood"

Part Two! Time to make the Humidifier!

This is costly part of the tek.  Unless you can find a ultrasonic fogger on Ebay for dirt cheap, your stuck paying around 50.00 for a brand new one at Petsmart.  Anyway, here we go!

I bought a smaller tub measured in Liters not gallons. (I forget how big it was, but you'll get the idea of proportions here in a minute.

HERE IS THE MINI TUB!

I cut the same size hole as I did on the Hood.  This is where the other end of the hose will be attached.

THIS WHERE I MEASURED, CUT, AND INSTALLED THE HOSE PORT.

Next, I measured, cut and installed a three speed computer fan on the opposite end of the tub.  I build computers, so I have quite a few laying around the house.  You can buy a fan that is VAC instead of the VDC I used. That way you don't have to mess with the computer power supply.  (Once again, I have a couple of those laying around.  If I hadn't, I would have gone the VAC way and plugged it straight into a wall.)

THIS IS WHERE I MEASURED, CUT, AND INSTALLED THE COMPUTER FAN.

next I drill a hole just big enough to fit the ultrasonic fogger power connection.

THIS IS WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE.

Now lets fire up that baby and see if looks like magic so far!

THESE PICTURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES!  HUMIDIFICATION AND FRESH AIR ALL IN ONE BABY!!

Well, there you have it, Part two complete!  Now lets take a look at part one and part two side by side.

THE ONLY THING MISSING IS THE INCUBATION CHAMBER AND THE HOSE CONNECTING THEM BOTH.

Take into consideration that this setup lives in my walk in closet. I'm a grown ass man and don't need to be "hiding" it from parents.  It's custom made for a 30 gallon tub.  The incubation tub could be incubating jars, trays, or be a straight up bulk substrate in the middle of colonization.  Whatever the case may be, it is incubating something.  The moment that it's decided that it's time to fruit. You convert it to a fruiting chamber quick and easy.

THIS IS THE SET UP WHILE IT'S IN THE INCUBATION PERIOD.

THIS IS THE SET UP WHILE IN THE FRUITING PERIOD.

I ran the set up for 2 hours to get an idea of what temps and humidity during the fruiting stage.

THIS IS AFTER TWO HOURS OF OPERATION.  Temps and humidity at VERY acceptable ranges.  In my opinion, the most awesome aspect to this is the fact that you have CONSTANT FRESH AIR EXCHANGE without loosing humidity.  The only thing left to do is put it to the real test.  I don't foresee any problems though.  I will be putting another  filter in front of the fan here in the next week.  I'll update this tek with pictures when that occurs.

Tell me what you think, did I leave something out?  Is it worth 5 shrooms?

All the parts are readily available.  It's really not that hard.  Does the tek seem very difficult?

The best part of the whole thing is building from an idea, not really knowing what the final product will look like. Then when everything is done, sitting back and going...Wow! Then you start thinking of all kinds of things you could have done differently. You say to yourself, "The next time I do this, I'll do it like this....."

The red light and the metal thing is the fogger and all it has to do is be submerged under at least half an inch of water. The rest takes care of itself.

You got :mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2: from me.  But I have one question.  I run an ultrasonic fogger for 5 minutes every 2 hours in a fridge fc and my casings are soaking wet.  Wouldn't a fogger drown the contents of your fc (ie casings) in just a few hours, or is their enough FAE through that fan to evaporate the excess water.  Also, I used to have a problem with an exhaust on my fc because my coolmist and ultrasonic made my ambient RH 70+.  Do you have this problem with the fogger running all the time?

Peace

I ran it for two hours just to see if the ultrasonic fogger was big enough for the job.  It held humidity at 99% during that time.  I didn't notice an overly wet casing, although you have a great point.  I chose to use a 3 speed fan just for that reason.  I figure that between the two timers I have, (one for the fogger, one for the fan), and three different speeds, I'll find the "sweet spot" where RH will drop to 96% to 98%.  If you put your hand in front of the Hepa filter, you can feel the breeze!  That tells me that there's Puhlentee  of Fresh air being circulated.  As of right now, it doesn't seem like I'll be using the timers.  Who knows, I'll have to run it for 24 hours and find out.  I've got about 5 inches of manure in the tub. I havn't put spawn in it yet.  Still just in the experimental stage.

looks cool but looks like a lot of work involved and the space to grow in a very small.

looks like it was fun to build and i would use your big ultrasonic tub for humidity for my greenhouses

you did a very nice job :-))

That is a very effective way it seems.
I have used those foggers in the past to root clones but my o my, that looks great.
I may have to break out my fogger again and see if i can get all the components from round the house
If i end up makin something, ill be sure to share it here if you dont mind.
Good on you for posting your creation mate

you could just put a heater next too the fan then when you where in the incubation stage just turn off the fogger.

I'm gonna try this setup though I love it.
