Salvia Divinorum. A cry for help from NZ..
    #7235435 - 07/29/07 02:38 AM (5 years, 9 months ago)

Hi guys, I have recently aquired a the almighty Salvia Divinorum, a plant bought recently but has a few problem I hope you can shed some light on to..

Here are the pics..

As you can see from these, the stalk on this is pretty 'WTF', skinny and doesn't seem quite healthy at all. There are tiny new shoots appearing on it though.

The leaves are starting to brown and curl up on themselves with holes appearing.

It seems to be growing ok, but just doesn't seem healthy. I've read and used the 'Salvia growing guide' reduced the water pH to around 6.5 using solutions from an aquarium, also stripped the water of Chlorine via the same methods, aquarium products.

ANY insights, tips would be MUCH appreciated as I don't want this plant to die.

..also the plant when bought, was pretty root bound, would that be a problem? [Have now re-potted in a larger and used perlite with potting mix for airation and water retention]

Should I try cutting this plant above that shitty stalk and re-root it?

..over and out

She looks healthy but it looks like you have to repot her!

She's fine, just needs a stable environment to get used to.

If the leaves turn brown and curl up a bunch, put her in a humidity tent. If the leaves stay alright or just dry and curl a little bit I'd avoid the humidity tent.

I agree with this.

I would put rooting hormone all the way up to the top of that curvy part, then plant it all under the soil.

Salvia roots easy enough that you don't even need rooting hormone IMO. Adding a few inches of soil is a great idea to incerease the support. I've had plenty of branches like that. You're fine. You can also stake the plant whenever you feel like you need added support.

Ah thanks guys! Tops. Hey would it still be ok to repot even though there are tiny shoots appearing on the scummy part of the stalk?

Thanks heaps btw!

Defenitely.

Repot her and bury that bad spot in the stem in the soil. It'll just increase your root mass.

Nice size plant though. Good growing.

Cheers man! Yeah she's producing A LOT of new babies on the side which tells me that things are going ok. Phew!

I think I'll go buy a bigger pot again and repot her like you recommend as there isn't enough strength in the stalk.

Mint, thanks again
