Lol we need a special tag for people who have blown up their glove box.
I used to make potato guns and I would never think of putting fuel in a closed box and let it mix with the air with a flame going. You have your arms in a combustion chamber! You are lucky it went off early. You get the right air/fuel ratio and you could take out the windows in a room with a huge fire ball with you in it. The worst thing you could do is try and light a lighter in the box with open fuel that would be a much larger explosion or the lighter wont light if too much fuel is in the air and you get lucky.

I know this now mang!

Isopropyl is a much better solvent than water, especially for glue.

If it works for you, great, but I have never seen any sort of tape stick after being soaked in alcohol.

iono, what do i do to sterilize the micropore though?

Just don't. It's fine. Wash your hands before applying it, to make sure all your finger gunk doesn't adhere to the sticky part.

I concure. I do take the first inch off and dispose of it before I start covering the holes in my jars. Also I wear latex gloves but I'm almost to the point of not wearing them anymore. If I do more than 12 jars they get destroyed anyway. The alcohol vapor in the air inside my glovebox gets so heavy that it starts disolving the glue on the tape and it sticks to my gloves and it's hard to get the subsequent pieces of tape to come off the roll, not stick to my gloves, and then stick to the jar instead of my gloves. Why is the vapor so heavy you ask? Because I used several alcohol soaked paper towels inside the glove box to wipe down the tops of the jars to remove the water that was left under the foil from pressure cooking. Also I use one to wipe down the needle after every injection before flaming it again.

This thread makes me think that I may want to reconsider the use of alcohol soaked paper towels in the glove box. I keep my alcohol lamp about six inches from my glove box which is situated such that the lid is actually the side I put my arms through. So alcohol vapor could potentially escape the box, ignight and blow me half way across my basement. Hasn't been a problem yet but I've been using more alcohol lately. Maybe I'll just cut that back some. Also I never thought about the fact I put a glowing red hot needle in an alcohol vapor filled box.

Well anyway I'm glad you are okay and thanks for making me take a closer look at my technique.

Sounds like you're a prime candidate to use a needle condom -- it's a piece of foam packing material with alcohol on it, and you stick your needle through the foam to keep it sterile after you used flame sometime earlier. Search the forum for "needle condom" and you'll see what I'm talking about.
