I have pretty good posture, good clarity and I feel my meditations are extremely benefitical.. But I have been bothering myself with the fact I can not get into full lotus lately. Been bugging myself out getting over nicotene addiction to though..
i stopped meditating because my mediatations started becoming as strong as tripping, except it doesn't stop after a set period of time and there is no dosage deciding how high you'll get.
also, my posture is normally pretty terrible, but i learned how to sit decently (i've since quit so it doesn't matter)
the trick is worry about your back last. first make sure your feet are relaxed and fully resting against the ground. learn to feel all the places simulataneously where your feet are touching the ground and relax into it.
next do the same thing with your knees (this is a trouble spot for me).
next thighs. once if you've found a good resting point for all those minor pieces it should be relatively easy to relax your stomache and the back will relax on its own. if your problem is with the upper back once you get your lower half resting gently just lightly stretch your arms in every way you can think.
with everything you do posturally you're trying to SLOWLY and GENTLY move your body into a position that it feels supported without having to tense up.
whats funny is a did this for a couple years. when i sat down and did it right, after about an hour i would become quite flexible. then as soon as i stopped i would instantly revert to my old posture and become inflexible again.
oh also, one of the best ways to help your posture initially is to learn to breathe gently with your stomache, this would really help my lower back
edit: an excelent metaphor is to look at your body like a jigsaw puzzle. if you just randomly smash everything together of course its not going to come out right. you have to examine each part peice by peice and then slowly peice it together.

Don't worry about full lotus, and if you want to quit smoking, Alan Carr wrote an amazing book on the subject before he died. its called 'The Easy Way to Quit Smoking'. It provides exactly what it says on the cover, have no doubt.
