A Couple Hunting Questions Not Answered In the FAQs

1) Alot of the guides and posts on here say that you guys hunt at night. Is there some reason for this that has something to do with mushroom growth, or is it just more a matter of being discreet?
2) I have some patches around my house. The first is of course foes, growing in my lawn. The second is a small group of pluteus growing from an old mulch pile. From watching these two patches, could I assume that when they pop up, that it would be a good time to go hunting? Or is their too much difference in species growth to generalize? Specifically, I am hunting blue foot.
Thanks guys, sorry for what will probably end up being silly questions.

1.if you are a northern hunter and are hunting forest at night you're probably going to break your leg.in the flood plain areas here it's hard walking.thats probably for the cube and cope hunters down south sneaking around cattle fields.
2.it really depends on the temperature, location and amount of moisture I think.in times when it's dry here, which was all season until recently,I find more mushrooms around bodies of water (streams and rivers are more productive at this time)or old growth or thick second growth hollows that dont get alot of light.if say the mushrooms were fruiting in a really dry part of your yard that has been baked for weeks under hot sun it would be a indicater that mushrooms are also fruiting in other dry areas(after a lot of rain comes thru)edited.if that makes sense?

Thanks for the help Coon. Ultimately, I'm guessing I just need to stop procrastinating and carry my fat ass into the woods.

yeah, just go as much as you can and don't get stuck on looking in the same place all the time.if you're looking for blues you'll probably be looking for awhile and will definately have to scour a lot of land before you find the niche.

While I have you here, Is a "Blue Foot" and a "blue foot psilocybe" the same thing? My field guide lists a "Blue-Foto Psilocybe" as Psilocybe caerulipes, but everyone always talks about how much harder they trip on blue feet than psilocybe. Am i looking at the wrong thing in my guide? Thanks.

We must have different editions of the book or something, because my pg. 719 reads:
Psilocybe caerulipes (pk.) Sacc. Strophariaceae, Agaricales
and the range is listed from maine to north carolina, and west to michigan.

Look up the VA Creeper Trail. It's an old train route that was torn up and turned into a nature trail. Runs from Abingdon to like Raleigh.
