I just bought a telescope.

Pretty stoked, setting it up right now.. I cant wait till it gets dark out here.

It was a pretty cheap one, only 100$ but it should be good for killing time. Its got a 660x magnification, how decent is this?

Don't let them throw big numbers around like that.
Yea it can probably reach 600x.....but it would only work on the moon.

Lower powers are better IMO 25-100x being my favorite.

I have owned a telescope for about 30 years.
I have a 10inch reflector (eyepiece on the side of tube)
Looks like a little water heater :headbanger:

I can show you Gods playground with it :bouncysmoke:

I'm sure yours is a refractor, probably 90mm, maybe 100mm (size of the main lens of the telescope)

Is the eyepiece at the very end of the tube?

Gotta align the finder scope with the main scope first........kinda like sighting in a gun.......or you wont see shit.

Have fun.......find the darkest place to set it up, no street lights or anything is best.

A store called "Blacks photography" at a local mall.. It was the only one they had, it was a pretty big impulse buy.

Objective diameter: 60mm... not so good im guessing?

This kinda confused me, what do you mean align the two? Didnt I do that when I screwed it to the top of the main body?

It also came with a moon filter, im guessing most do though.. All I want to know is if I am able to see planets :laugh:

No.

There should be 3 screws on the finder scope. They are used to tune it in, to what the telescope is pointed at.

Point it at a street light.
Get the light in the center of your eyepiece......easier said than done BTW

Then fine tune your finder scope until the light is in the cross hairs.
Keep re-checking the eyepiece, 'cause by making your adjustments, you are gonna move the telescope slightly.

Get it as close to dead center as possible.
If you can't get it dead center, readjust the screws that hold the finder scope to the telescope. That should help.

This MUST be done or you won't find anything but the moon.

A decent star map is handy also. There are thousands of things to see if you know where to look.

What kind of mount is it on equatorial or alt-azimuth

Do you have a pix of it?

I dont have a camera :frown:

But it looks like a less complicated version of many of the equatorial mounts I see on the net.

Its a Bushnell 78-9660

Here is a pix of an equatorial mount.

It needs to be aligned with the north star in order for it to track the stars for you.

Here is a pix of an Alt-azimuth mount

Notice the counter weight on the equatorial mount.

Is this what your telescope looks like?

If so it is an Alt-azimuth mount and doesn't have to be pointed at the north star.

Yeah, thats the one.

Ok so I tried it out last night.. but I must suck or something because I couldnt focus in at ANYTHIGN. I didnt have time to align my finderscope with the main body but even when id look at a star through the main telescope it would come up real fuzzy.. I tried many times to adjust the viewing, but nothing :confused:

Gotta fine tune the finder scope in the day time.

Make sure they didn't place a piece of protective plastic on the main lens.

Sometimes dew will form on the main lens making it hard to focus.

Where are you located, if you don't mind me asking?
