Blockbuster's service is good. The main advantage they have over Netflix is that you can bring the movies to the store, exchange them to tide you over until the movies arrive in the mail. It has come in handy at least once every two weeks for me, sometimes more.

They've really picked up on customer service too you can tell. Netflix must have scared them straight a bit, but they will have their monopoly strangle hold on the rental industry in a few years when they steal enough Netflix customers away. I do know a lot of people who have been with netflix for years, and vow to loyally stick with them due to the fact that they've never had one complaint.

I just think more people will sign up with Blockbuster now, rather than Netflix, like me and eventually keep making upgrades that Netflix will not be able to compete with.

Umm... for a munchie run, or the next day, or just to goof on the employees by going in baked and having the hardest time choosing a free replacement.

It's great to live 3/10ths of a mile from from Blockbuster too.

Svideo!

What a joke! I use DVI to HDMI to my home theater system with coaxial digital for audio and the quality (no matter what player I use) doesn't come close to what I get from my 1080i up-converting DVD player.

Look who "doesn't know shit".

I know plenty about home audio and video, growing up with a father who spent his whole life building speakers and creating home theater systems teaches you a few things.  Especially enough to know that yes, you don't want to use a computer if you want to get the best picture and sound.  I mean shit, that goes without fucking saying, if you don't know that you're a fucking retard.  My comment was merely you're not stuck to watching movies on your pc screen only.

Secondly i don't own an HDTV, unlike you i don't have the money to afford one at the moment.  Being so i don't have the opportunity to utilize HDMI, im stuck with s-video.  Given the chance i'd love to take advantage of what an HDTV has to offer, i always love going home to watch movies on my pops rig.

Well blockbuster already pissed me off. i signed up for the 2 at a time and they gave me 3 at a time, charged me for it too. And they wouldnt accept any of the coupon codes I tried, from multiple websites. They better straighten up their act.

Its gonna be a pain in the ass rating all the movies again

I worked for a blockbuster for a few years, they do some shady shit with their promotions. The biggest scam i can think of was the early "rewards membership". Every CSR working the checkout had to ask customers about it, basically if you signed up for it you got coupons for free movies every month in the mail. Also after every 5th rental you would get the 6th one free. What we didn't tell you is that 98% of the coupons and free rentals were for movies in the old releases section. You might get one coupon for a free new release rental a month. I can't tell you how many pissed off customers i had to deal with when they found out that they couldn't get new releases for free.

Not only that but have you ever returned a movie on time and then get charged for late fees? If revenues were low for the month managers would often let tapes that came in the drop box at night to sit over night and generate late fees. A good portion of the customers would always pay the late fees without question and the store would earn more on the rental and raise their revenues for the month.

Shady shit, greatest thing about the job was the free rentals i got and the chance to get to see movies a week or so before they were released to the public.

I'm sure if you contact them, they'll not only straighten it out, they'll give you a few extra coupons for free rentals.

Like I said in a previous post, "they bend over backwards to make you happy".

I notice you have nothing to say about DiVx vs. DVD in hand. (Not to mention wasted bandwidth.)

Blockbuster rulez!

That was then, this is now. They have changed their ways and automatically add 7 days to due dates. And even then, if you're a good customer and return a movie a day or two over the absolute limit, they'll waive the fee anyway.

Yes, i know, our store was the first corp. store in the area to begin the re-rental program. That was a long long time ago, 7-8 years. But even if they've "changed their ways" why would you support a business that rips(ped) you off?

I don't understand the divx vs dvd in hand argument. Are you just saying that the dvd is better because you have the ability to watch it over and over in your dvd player, is it just because it produces better quality picture/sound, what?

They have never ripped me off in any way, shape or form. If anything I've gotten the upper hand in the deal several times.

As for DiVx vs. DVD, send me a DVD you've made from a downloaded DiVx file that I can watch multiple times with equal to DVD quality.

Tell Comcast to lick my ass then. That company has the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Really the only cable carrier in this area, so I had no other choice to go with them even though I had read so many awful things about them.

I 100% agree with you, they suck. As soon as Verizon FiOs puts them out of business, (or well before) I'll not only dump the stock, but have FiOs as soon as it's dug in here.
